Thread: ID the dullest Profession in SWG?

Firstly let me begin by saying I am not having a go at Image Designers just how Lucas Arts have made the profession! I am a relatively new have been trying for weeks to do ID. No-one will let me touch them as I can't do stats migrate or anything advanced so couldn't even get a foothold. "Do it on yourself" I hear you cry - well I can't as I am a wookie. Eventually a friend has (and still is) giving up her characters time so we can grind it together and I can become an ID. For me this does not equate to fun or value for money. My friend is bored sitting accepting and I am not to excited by the grind myself. There must be a better way to do this. In entertainer if you are a newbi you can join a group to help build your xp. You canmake friends, have fun, be taughtwhile mastering your character. Combat professions allow interaction, missions, shooting - generally gameplay. ID is solitary and there isn't much gameplay involved. Newbi's don't stand a chance of gettingclients as other players just want the professional touch or advanced skills- which is not the Master ID's fault. Newbi's can get involved in every other profession and feel part of the community, apart from this one.You may say don't do it but I thought the ethos of this game was be who you are or what you want to be. I want to be ID but getting there is like watching paint dry - THIS ISN'T GAMEPLAY!

There must be a better or more interactive way to do this. Lucas Arts please change it!

Sorry to hear you are having a tough go at it. Im not sure what your server is like, but the best way to grind through it

is to find others that are in the same position as you. Travel around to the different tents or cantinas . Socialize a little more till you can find others needing to grind. Trade off working on each other. You have a chance of leveling faster and making new friends while your at it. Just give it a little more time.its well worth it in the end. Good luck!

I wouldn't really call ID dull... it can, however, be tedious. (Trust me, the first time you geta pain in the rear customer, you'll know it isn't dull ).

You say you're new, so one of my suggestions is to try to get guilded. 9 times out of 10, guildmates will be able and willing to help you get some of the skills you need. If that is not an option you want to use, find someone else in the tent who also cannot migrate stats and pair up with them to get the xp you need. Misery loves company.

Dull may not be the right word. But, I understand where you're coming from. Some people have offered some suggestions. But, really, the question remains...if you are a new character on the server, without friends or guildmates, and you happen to be a wookie with dreams of becoming an image designer, what do you do? It's not as easy as it sounds to simply try to find someone who will let you ID on them. And, to be honest with you, when I was levelling up ID (my ID is human), I didn't even want to share ID time withanother IDbecause it actually ended up taking longer. They could ID me, then I could ID them, but the way the xp is set up, it still means that you get the same amount of experience ID'ing someone else in this "switch back and forth" scenario as you get ID'ing on yourself. But, it ends up seeming slower because it relies on the other person being as quick with the accepts and the ID'ing as you are. Of course, most people weren't as quick as I was and I was a bit impatient.

So, basically, what I'm saying here is that unless you can find a friend who will let you ID them then you're SOL if you're a wookie. And, I think something should be done that can allow a beginning wookie to gain some sort of ID experience without having to rely on groups. Optimally, of course, SWG is an interdependent game and I have the most fun when I'm doing things with others. However, there should always be at least some method to gain experience solo if you absolutely have to. I think mon cals have the same problem as the wookies until they reach the point where they can do eyes.

Oh man if only you had come before the ID revamp. I found a buddy and did it in 50 minutes. I was a hologrinder, but I must admit, I may have been the saddest giving up that profession morethan any other profession.

ID itself isn't dull. But the grind can be excruciating, yes.

Sorry to hear that you are having this difficulty. I am well aware of the problem myself because when I made my ID on Corbantis, each of the characters there on both of my accounts are Mon Calamaris (Mon Calamaris can't ID themselves until they reach Image Design 2 in Entertainer either). My advice is to go to either the Theed or the Coronet tents and ask the other IDs there to help you get to Iamage Design 2 (at which point you can change eye color and will be able to work on yourself). I have helped Wookiees do this before on at least 2 occasions and believe that is is a duty of the ID community to so help our disadvantaged Wookiee and Mon Calamari members.

As far as making eyes available at Novice Entertainer, while it would be nice, I can't see it happening because Eye Color is a body change not a cosmetic one and I doubt that they would allow Novice Entertainers to get the higher xp from body changes earlier than they do now. A better alternative would be Wookiee fur color and Mon Calamari pattern color (which are cosmetic changes but are currently granted higher up the tree).

Oh, and Erann, that was neither a nice thing to say nor a constructive one. Wookiees have every right to be entertainers too... whether it be IDing, Dancing or Music.

My MIDs

  1. Bria: Ssumidra Merakat (Trandoshan)

  2. Corbantis: Sepia Kraken (Mon Calamari)

  3. Lowca: Elistra Moraven (Zabrak)

  4. Intrepid: Dar'yia (Rodian)

  5. Scylla: Miyax (Wookiee)

  6. Tempest: Lu'fra Maizing (Rodian)

I have a female wookiee dancer alt. Wookiee males certainly appreciate the very rare female wook and adore the fact that she dances. With stat migration available, most professions are playable for every race.

Take your closemindedness and be off with you.
