Image Designer Archive
Thread: Hello Image designers I have a few questions for you.
Hello and thank you for your time. I'm a male Twi'lek on Intrepid who want's to have my own "extreme makeover". I want to beef up and add more muscle to my avatar's frame and I would like to know your suggestions.
Should I increase muscle, torso or both? Does one have visual advantages over the other?
Your suggestions would be appreciated.
Also if any of you know of a image designer on Intrepid I'd like to know about them as well.
One final question. Can you change hair color to black? I've always found it odd that you can make a character with dark skin (in other words a black person) but not give them black hair. It's either shades of brown or blond and I don't want my character to do the Dennis Rodman thing. . . although. .. naa never mind
.
Thank you.
I am not one your server, but happy to answer your questions.
Since you are male, there is no torso option, that is a female only modification (read boob job).
Muscle and weight are you only buff up options. I have found making the weight about 10% and the muscle 90% makes the man look buff.
Muscle affects only the upper body, being shoulders and arms. The weight is going to put a little in the stomach area, but you don't want too much or you'll look like you have a beer gut.
At this time, Master Image Designers do not have true black, white or red for hair colors. And yes, I agree, it's rotten. But we just have to deal with what we got dished out.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. =)
Actually males DO have a torso slider in character creation.. I didn't play with it too much but it seemed to be identical in function to muscle. And both seemed to have an effect on torso thickness as well as muscle in character creation. I'll have to go back in and give it a try sometime to see if my memory is correct.
But they do not have such a slider in ID. I wish they did because I want to flatten out my twi'lek a little, he keeps being mistaken for one of the ladies.
One thing to be wary about with muscle.. As much as the ladies demand muscular men.. I've found cranked up muscle can make the "man **edit**" poke through some clothes, especially noticable in vests such as the simple vest. So I usually keep muscle between 0% and 25%.
I wholly agree about weight though for both men and women. Theres too many waifs walking around. Any time I'm doing ID on someone I always check the weight slider, and if it's all the way down I recommend bumping it up a little. I don't think anyone I've suggested it to has turned it down. Only one person who had some weight and wanted to become a waif. Same for boobs, I don't like the biggest boobs look. I think 25%-75% should be the norm and whenever someone comes to me for a boob job I try to keep it in that range.
I agree about the weight thing. You need to have at least 4 clicks of weight or so in order to avoid the "girly waist" syndrome in males, particularly in males with max muscle and min fat. In fact one customer asked me for "abs" and I accomplished this by increasing weight (go figure that weight would make you look slightly buffer if done right.) The biggest mistake is for the male to strip down to his skivvies. Yes, you will look like you have a huge butt in the default tightie whities. Wear the undershirt and pants (not armor) for the truest results. Bodysuits also work for that.

If I see a combat class character female running around with a big gun, maxed out torso sliderand a revealing flesh wrap then I REALLY suspect that is the case
Actually... that's probably me. And I am a female irl. Hehe. I just like messing with people. The black fleshwrap, black boots, and long black gloves is good if you want people to do a double take. W00t!
Yeah, torso & muscle in the character creation do exactly the same function for males, which is why they were probably combined ingame.
It's bad design for the males that make them look cartoonish & unnatural. I usually overcome the unevenness in upper/lower body by adding weight (it thickens thighs & waist). If you want muscles at minimum try 2-3 notches of weight, if maxed on muscles try 3-4 notches. Never go past 4 notches though unless you want to start looking overweight.
