Thread: AP, and finding young Image Designers...
Okay, just to get it out of the way I want to point out that I'm not complaining that I don't like apprenticeship points, and I'm not saying I think they're too hard to get, etc. This isn't a whining post, I'm genuinely interested in getting some help here. Now, with that out of the way...
So I've mastered everything in the image designer profession, but I've still only got 50 apprenticeship points, all gained from the one person that has asked me for training since I started my character. I rarely see image designers at all, but when I do they're usually master image designers. My question is, then, how did you get your apprenticeship points?
Is there a place that I'm overlooking where younger image designers might be hanging out?
Did you run around shouting that you're training? (I really don't want to be that person.)
Were you exchanging training with another Image Designers in different lines of skill as you advanced?
What did you do...?
I don't know what you're doing to get apprentice points, but here are some ways and places that I got apprentice XP specifically for training IDers.
1. Trained in duo with another person: one person would buy a skill and train the other, then switch off. Obviously this doesn't apply to you now.
2. Do your IDing in crowded public areas and do not use group chat -- talk out loud. Frequently ask your client questions: "Do you want your hair a shade darker?""How's that for a nose?" If people hear you are doing Image Design the apprentices might come forward.
3. Wear a title, any title in the ID line will do.
4. Hang out within sight of the ID trainer or Entertainer trainer in various cities, if possible. Some people are paying for ID at the trainer because they can't find you. In some places, this isn't practical (like the ID trainer in the back hall of the theater in Mos Entha, for instance).
5. Stay in the cantinas where people are generally found going for Master Musician.
6. This is the important one: ask the other Master IDs you meet to direct students your way. Organize students on your server and keep track of their progress. Obviously somebody is teaching these people, so go to the other IDs and find out who the studentsare.
7. Train for free.

That is a very good suggestion about keeping track of others in your profession. I am not an ID (just peeking in to see if there are wookiee braids yet), I am a Ranger and everytime I login or go to a new city I run a search on rangers in the area and add them to my friend's list. Getting training/offering training has been a breeze since then. Usually if you offer, they keep you in mind even if they do not need training right then.I also try to help out in other ways - money, advise, etc. People feel more comfortable asking for training from someone they know is friendly and helpful.
Since I've never met an ID who ISN'T friendly and helpful, that should be no problem!
