I was on my alt last night, messing around, taking a crate of food to my Jedi Knight GF, whom I'm RP'ing dating with my Jedi Knight. Anyways, I just missed the shuttle, so as i stood around i get a tell asking to change such and such, i'm like sure. So I fix the guy up, and in the process of fixing him up i get a tell from another person wanting to fix their hair. I said sure i'll hook you up.

Well This person was a complete newby character. I did not know it at the time. Well I did her hair, for which she was very grateful. I usually ask at the end, just tip whatever you like. She said i only have 1k... i then was like hmm.... then i looked sure enough she was wearing newby clothes, carrying a newby axe. I told her, dont worry about it, I understand how it is starting out, with no money, nothing in your posession. I told her it was my privelege to help out a starting player in any way i could. She even asked if she could have some money, I gave her 25K to get some clothes and such. Even talked to her, explained some things the way the game is run, helping settle some of the wondering and such that goes with being a newby player. And it all started with my alt changing her hair. I just love ID and love helping new players. She was very grateful for the help, she really was brand new and didnt know anything.

I love ID'ing. Changing the way someone looks so they are happy and can be creative with their own looks and personalities, is what brings the greatest joy to me about the Profession. Seeing someone whose look is hidious or a newby like her get a makeover and look really nice, brings me great joy.

Last night I had an EXTREMELY new character in the cantina inquiring about my clothing prices. Now, I don't charge for new characters (clothing OR ID work)... and this girl was frankly the most hideous toon I'd ever seen. So I made her a 'deal'. I told her, if she'd let me give her a makeover, I'd make her a free outfit. She of course agreed, and I was able to make her EXTREMELY attractive. What a relief. It's gotten to the point now where I see ID as a rescue effort rather than a luxury service. Especially with the weight issue. No character I ID anymore leaves me without having at least one quarter on the weight slider.

Exactly. I think this one of the reasons many of us won't ever give it up. It truly is satisfying to help someone, both with the game and look better.

I ID new players for free as well, and my tailor alt will make any outfit free for a new character. They're always so happy! I love watching people get so excited.

One thing I did learn, though. Make sure they really are newbs. I had a guy a couple months ago who threw on newb clothes, put up his "Novice Marksman" tag, and asked me for free ID and some cash to get clothes. I said sure, IDed him, and while I was waiting for him to accept, examined his bio. He had mastered pretty much every profession and had a junkload of badges. Thank god I hadn't tipped him the money yet. Jerk.

This sort of thing is EXACTLY the reason that the devs don't OWE us anthing for getting rid of those damned stat migrations. The ID profession is doing just fine, thank you.

Even though I don't get many people asking for ID sessions, when I get the chance, it really is fun. Even if you only change a few things, you can really make a difference in the appearance. Small things, like eyes, eyebrows, hair color, etc. seem like they wouldn't matter, but they do, and it's great to see how people react to their new look.

Oh yeah... i know...

Running a group yesterday in Theed.

Guy comes up asking for ID (new haircut, I was free to choose on and a little bit of tan)....

While going at it, I checked his other things... The most uber (and ugly) setting: full torso, full muscle, almost full height and no weight.... I asked if I could a bit with the other things as well give him a more "natural mature" look ... No...... he did like his muscles and stuff......

So ofcourse, I altered them... Gave him a bit of weight , dropped muscles and torse quitea bit...

Looked way more natural afterwards...

Never told him tho, and when he wanted to know how he looked, I send him to a human female (in same group) because I'm a Twi'

When he left the group, we had a great laugh about it when i told them.

I've been known to sneak some weight on when the customer isn't looking. I think it's probably unethical...
