Thread: Can the measurements be off? or have I been had by a particularly wicked Image Designer?

I was looking to take my measurements from an image designer a while back so I could recreate my character on another server, but well it did not work very well as my new character looks like a complete dork contrary to my old character which looked quite good (according to myself).. So I wonder was the image designer a wicked person, or can the measurements be off?

Here's a screenshot of before and after, the one to the left is before and the one to the right is the new character after those measurements I gotwere implemented (And to be honest I believe the one to the right fits most with the numbers in the measurements)

Thanks for reading and hope you can help me out.

I don't believe it was a wicked Image Designer. Certain things from your original character seem to carry over. For instance, we are missing the eye shape feature, it says eye shape to us but its really eye tilt. That alone could mess you up.

But thing I wonder about is that certain scales go from 90-255 and things like that. The Character Creator doesn't show you any digits at all. So there is a good chance you are reading this wrong unless you converted the numbers to a 100% scale.

If you are playing on Starsider, you can send me a screenshot of you old character and I can probably do a pretty close replication. I was in Beta 2 and Beta 3 and the game never worked then so I learned how to mess with the Creator a lot during those times.

Good Luck Part'na!

It's hard to recreate things one step at a time, and especially for someone else to match what only YOU remember. One thing you can do is recreate yourself to your satisfaction in the character designer (make a new character on another server) and remember the approximate slider positions for all the various traits, which would help an ID along. (Or make sure they have the image as reference and be ready to sit and let them tweak for a WHILE to get things right.)

Uhm... the thing is, I spoke to an image designer on Tarquinas to check my measurements (Via the image designer UI)and she gave me numbers of what the characters features were, these numbers I gave to an image designer on Chimaera to put into my new character. But they seemed to have turned out entirely different.

Sometimes when you go to Image Design someone, the numbers that show on the sliding scale are not accurate. I've seen people who have never been image designed have a "0" for eye size, for instance, when in fact the actual number was quite different.

I have also had cases where simply opening up an image design option on someone changes that feature. For instance, I went to change someone's cheeks, and the avatar changed as soon as I opened up the sliding scale for cheeks, before I ever adjusted them. When I canceled the image design, the person had their "new" cheeks, which actually did correspond to the number that was given, rather than their "old" cheeks.

So there seems to be a discrepency between the avatar and the numbers, at least sometimes. I would recommend just playing with your features until you are satisfied.

"Ironically, while researching this piece a representative from Sony asked us to keep in mind that many of the players complaining "weren't playing the class right," and that the class was designed as a solo experience. Such a comment is indicative of the original Ultima Online mistake: not realizing that once an MMO is released to the public, it no longer belongs to the developers, it belongs to the people paying $14.99 a month for the service."

Thank you extraordinary Ewok (:smileyvery-happy I think that is the case after reading another thread with the same problems.. I sure hope they fix it.. I found an image designer to salvage what was left of my once beautiful face so its pretty okay now .. but I'd rather have it be exactly the same as the other one. Anyhow, thanks again for the help !

I was the designer on Chimaera that did the changes to Ern's specific requests. He had a whole sheet of numbers written down and I matched them up exactly according to the numbers on the sliders. I have no idea why this didnt work, in theory it should be possible to "clone" an existing character.

If you need anymore help Ern, send me a tell.

That's why I recommended you remember the approximate slider positions--you can't always trust the numbers themselves, nor the ID able to read them precisely. (Heck, a bunch still "zero out" making us have to eyeball it imprecisely anyway.) But since your racial sliders in no areas (that I know of) change between character creation and Image Design, you should best be able to judge by ratio--not absolute values that may not translate across.

I noticed something consistently happening with a few of the sliders.... the effect was BACKWARDS of the way it was at creation.

It was either torso, weight, or muscle, but putting the slider UP/FULL, make them thin/chestless.

Dunno if this may be one of the reasons things turned out differently for you.

Then again, i could just be on crack.

No adagiogray, you're right—the torso slider is backwards. But that should have any effect on a male toon, and I don't recall ever seeing any other backwards sliders…anyone else find any?
