Hi

I made master ID 2 days ago on the Eclipse server, and since then I have been SWAMPED with consultation requests (seriously, I cannot step foot into theed without being bombarded with tells ). However, I don't have a set price list... I tell people totip me what they think is appropriate. So far, I have done quite well with this. Is this a good idea or bad? If you think it is a bad idea, what would a good fee be?

(Perhaps there is a sticky on this and I missed it)

Thanks!!

You may want to do a set price list just to make sure who is serious. Also make them travel to you.

I've never done a set price list but apparently they work out well. There is a sample list on the swg.atomicspacekitty.com site that might help.

I've never charged, and I find that what people chose to tip (or not tip) is always just fine. I guess it depends on how much you actually enjoy image designing. If you feel it's work, then by all means charge. A price list is tough because some people will think 100 credits is too much andothers will think 10,000 is too little. I think you probably just want to base it on what you consider to be a decent price.

Good luck to you. ^_^

Thanks!

I went to the page N'jessi recomended... it was quite good! I might just send my customers there to look at examples... *whistles and twiddles thumbs innocently*

As for ID being work... I think it is more fun than anything. One day, before I picked up ID,I didn't feel like playing, so I horsed around in the character builder for a while. LOL sad thing is I had more fun doing that than I have had in the game in a LONG time!

It is funny... not many people wantto "waste" points on being an ID, yet just about everyone uses us... constantly!Last night, I went to watch some GCW PvP action going on near the player city I live near, and I put up my master image designer tag, because I didn't want people to think I was part of the action. About half way through the middle of the battle, some guy who was out fighting asks for a makeover! It was hilarious! And I did it for free because it brought a smile to my face.

Since I am doing this to prettify people, I think I will ask for tips. I mean, I am a Fence as well, so I make good money dealing drugs to people. Sometimes it is fun to do something just because I was everyone to look good.

My canned response (I've seriously got this macro'd)is

/r Most folks feel a fee of several K per change is customary, however, I don't have a set pricing schedule. If you like how you look, I'll be content with what you feel is fair to you. This is my sole source of income, but tip as your bank account stability permits.

I've had tips range from being stiffed, on up to 70k. It all evens out. I enjoy it. I understand that someone in newbie gear probably doesnt have the cash, but i help them out anyway.

I always tell my clients (no macro, but it's exactly the same every time) "I have no set fees. Whatever you feel is apropriate for my time will be more than sufficient." A friend and business partner (Aime) does the same. After comparing notes we've found that we generally make about the same average tip per design session—she guessed about 4Kcr per session for her, I keep a ledger, so I know it's 4007.3cr per session (yes, I'm that **edit** ) In short, I still make more than I would if I went with the Theed Local pricing scheme—which I've considered more than once. I don't know…I may switch over some day…but for now I usually enjoy the sessions, and the tips are good…and if they aren't I know several people—not just myself and my two business partners—who won't ever sell to them or provide services of any kind. And that always makes me feel better.

I personally found asking for tips to be too stressful for me. I would just hate it when I got stiffed. So myself and some ID friends got together and came up with the price list Pani cites on her site (swg.atomicspacekitty.com). It's worked very well for me and I imagine has improved tips for those on my server that have no set price list. Many generous customers still tip me over and above my prices. Now and then I'll get a (insert word of choice here) that says I should ID them for free because I use no resources. I tell them they should show respect for the time of others andthen I begin to rant(note I've written three columns on the topic of tipping entertainers so I have lots of material haha). They usually apologize and slink off in shame. Or that's the way I like to see it anyway haha. Often they say they are off to find so and so who takes tips and they can therefore use for much less money. I tell them to be sure and tip them well and respect the time they spend on them. Sometimes I get tells back later saying how they tipped the ID generously (though I imagine less than my charges). I'm such a nag. Anyway prices have worked well for me, though I know lots of people have a great time with tips and just shrug it off if they get stiffed. In the end tipped people may get more monies if they're on a generous (old)server

My standard line is "Whatever you think is fair." Most people will pay graciously for changes. 5k-10k is average. I have been paid up to 30k a pop. Some people pay very little. Some pay not at all (and they get added to my deny services list). It all evens out in the mix, I think. And it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when they are really happy with the look. That is the best payment of all.
