quick question. i know there's a faq, but ... i must be reading it wrong. i still cant get my toon's haircolor to change to anything but damn brown...

Q: When I change hair color, I can’t see it. When I change hair style, it reverts to brown. Oh the horror!

A: The infamous Hair color/horn color/rhodian frill tip color bug. This bug essentially causes the image design client to see the hair’s real color, while others see a different color.

  • If you change a hair style, the color will look the “default color” to everyone but the client (brown for humans and zabraks, white for bothans).
  • If you change hair color or horn color, the color will look like the old color before the change to everyone but the client.
  • If you change color and style, the hair color will be the default color to everyone but the client.
  • But… if you change the zabrak horn/hair style, the horn color will revert to brown to you and the client. I think it’s permanent. Be sure to fix the horn color in these cases.

This bug is resolved by doing an exceptionally long relog (more than 30 minutes). Sometimes this does not work. Server reset always fixes this problem. This bug, however, would explain why an image designer might have trouble matching hair and eyebrows.

is it just me, or does the above not tell me how to change my hair color?

The bug that that part of the FAQ details is for changing another's hair color. You should see the correct color when changing your own hair. It's just everyone else that sees brown. Could you provide a little more detail? What species are you? Gender? Hairstyle? What color are you changing it to? Are you using the GUI? Do you get any messages, if so what do they say?

Most of the universe's problems can be solved by the application of a brick to the side of the right head.
The problem is if you don't have a big enough brick or can't find the right head. The devil is in the details.

LOL The snip that you posted from the FAQ doesn't tell you how to change your hair color, mostly because that's provided for ID's and we assume people already know. Which is dumb, because when I first started dealing in ID I was CLUELESS. Easiest way to do ID on yourself: press CTRL-1 and then type /im or /image. You should get the box pop up where you choose whether to change hair, body, face, or markings.

If you're doing this, and you are offering yourself a different hair color, and STILL can't see it... then I'm lost. You should always be able to see changes on your OWN character; you're the only one who can, however, until character backup or server reset.
