Thread: New toy for IDs

Just a random thought I came across, thought you guys might like to run it past your Correspondent and see what the DEVs think as well:

Basically, once an ID finishes his/her job, the person rarely comes back unless they are just in need for a new change. This can make the market fairly slim for an ID. I could be wrong, but from my own experience ( I change appearances alotmore than others),people dont change that often.

In order tomake a solution for this, I could forsee a craftingability for image designers. For now the only viable option I can come up withright now ismake-up kits. A person canvisit an ID tent, use the terminals to check out what"temporary" options they could get(without the use of the ID), and output a "formula." This formula could then betaken to an ID who could craftkits, or use factories to craft crates of kits, which would change the temporary aspects of the person that uses them to the settings.

For example, human female A, we'll call her Betty. Betty walks into an ID tent un happy with her lack of make-up. Checks out what styles are available and picks the combination of lipstick and eyeshadow she likes best. The machine outputs a formula into her inventory which she takes to herfavorite ID. ThisID runs the parts required for this formula toher factory and outputs a crate of these make-up kits.

In order for this to work properly, the make-up would have to decay. Treat it much like the custimization on bikes. 1-2 weeks and you have to reapply your settings.

This is just a rough draft of an idea I had in the shower thismorning =). Maybe someone will see it and be able to draft a more realistic approach with it.

Anyway, I gotta hit the musician forums now for another idea =)

You forget we aren't artisans, don't want to be (for the most part), and probably never will be.

Bannon9k,

Thanks for your input we are generally a very friendly group here. In fact I think ID is the only pure social profession in SWG, at lest the only one that you can't solo orAFK. True IDers really like the player/player interaction of the profession, and changing it to a crafting profession would end that. Also IDing is somewhat artistic and changing it to a crafting profession would also end that side of ID.

Some of us like the idea of IDers crafting small items (limited to lipsick and eyeshadow) as a way to advertise our salons, they would have limited uses and a set color. (they could be great for female RPers)

So your idea is not without some marrit, but having all ID stuff craftable would be bad for the profession.

You mentioned"temporary" IDs stuff, well we will be getting that they are called "particle affects", they will be mainly use for dressing up for a party and only last a few hours. We don't know what they look like yet. but they sound cool. A lot of new stuff will happen in mini 8.

Good Hunting

I have to agree but would like a way to market my character'sprofession without having to resort to the mindless droning of barking in the market place. ID's need something tangible and credible to sell ID services on the bazaar or private vendor, something someone knows if they buy wont be taken to the cleaners by those who love to cheat people out of hard earned credits with scams. Ive tried placing chance cubes labeled with the service being bought but so far have had no luck.

LadyPirate, I would recommend using clothing People looking for a new outfit are more likely to want a makeover than someone digging through the Miscellaneous category in the bazaar. I put clothes/jewelry up for sale and call it "Visit Kweestyle* Boutique " then put a waypoint and description of my tailoring/ID'ing.

Makeup crafting is on our State of the Profession wish list The devs didn't seem too thrilled with the idea.

I wanted to reply to this last night, and couldn't log in. Ladypirate, I thought your reply was completely out of line, and not at all the kind of image we want to present here in the forums. The original poster came here with an honest idea, trying to help us generate some recurring business, and all you did was blast them. Furthermore, their intention was clearly NOT to get rid of our profession!I can understand frustration when you get people in here posting the same thing OVER AND OVER, but that wasn't the case in this situation. Please remember that when you post here, you represent all of us, and we have a generally good reputation as being a non-ID friendlyforum.

To the OP: I've ALWAYS liked the idea of craftable makeup! I mean, it'd just be a little thing that girls carry around with them in case they wanna change their lip color or eyeshadow (and maybe we could even do contacts!) I've even thought about how easy it would be to implement it in terms of resources. 2 units of berry, 2 units of lubricating oil, and one unit of metal (for the case). As for us not being artisans... neither are doctors. Neither are musicians. Neither are bio-engineers. They ALL craft. No reason why we shouldn't be able to either.

Maybe I should clarify what I meant. I do not mean for this option to completely eliminate the ID proffession, nor do I mean for it to ruin your interaction with others. It was simply and idea to help boost the market for your services. A simple optional temporary change to the body that can not be gotten permantly could be crafted to keep players coming to you or your shop to purchase the kits.

I did not mean to upset any one with the post, it was merely and idea to pass onto these forums. But I never expected flame on the ID forums.

MOST of us know that. Those that don't are new to the ID forum, and on behalf of them, I apologize.

And we appreciate your thoughts! Please don't hesitate to post if you have an idea. This is how we advance... not just from feedback within our own ranks, but what the CUSTOMER wants as well!

Neither did I, and I am so sorry for that. Please don't let this experience stop you from coming back to visit. Flaming a constructive post is not how we NORMALLY operate, and I'm really quite upset that your post, which was intended to help us, got flamed the way it did. Our forum is known for being friendly and helpful, and this thread hasn't reflected that very well. I hope you come back and give us another chance.

I hope my font color doesn't bother anyone... what can I say, my name is Fuschia. LOL

Hmm.. How should these make-up kits work? I don't like the idea of limiting the number of times you can use them, or that the effect would fade away over time. I am not convinced that would encourage repeat sales, rather the opposite. Bannon mentioned the vehicle customization kits. I don't think they are in such high demand as they could potentially be, the reason being few people use them since they know the effect will wear off all too soon. I doubt people would be very enthusiastic about paying good money for make-up that would only last a few hours.

I am also wondering if there is a good market for them. I would imagine a great portion of the potential customer base to be entertainers. They are the ones who should care most about their appearance after all. Changing lip colour and eyeshadow is a skill that comes with novice entertainer. All anyone has to do to have a lifetime supply of SWG make-up is to pay 100 credits to an entertainer trainer! True, many of the novice entertainers don't know how to select themselves and type /im , but that is no reason to sell them stuff they don't need

As for the rest... Well, there are plenty of entertainers about to help them out with their everyday needs. We dedicated image designers can't really compete in terms of availability and ability here. Our role, as ever, is to provide a keener eye and a greater sense of style to those of our clients who ask for simple make-up changes, in addition to all the cool stuff that only we are able to do.

That said, I think craftable ID-items is still an intriguing idea, and it was great that the original poster brought it up. But we need some really funky content for it to work. Maybe we can make a special hair gel that you can rub into your hair (or fur, ridge or lekku) and get some amazing particle effects?
