In one or two of my recent posts, I said I'd wait and see about holoemotes. From the screen shots provided there was an understandable uproar, and feelings of betrayal because the particle effects weren't what many of us felt was sold to us. A pig in a poke type of deal.
But now that we've had time to see them, to play with them, the wait and see is over.
My personal take is that they are in general not to bad. Not what I was envisioning from hearing the descriptions maybe, but something I can live with and become happy with. I think where some of the initial shock and outrage came from is that the screenshot that were provided to show what they were, were in my opinion quite hideous. Mostly because they were big, huge, and gaudy. We, or at least I, was looking for subtle effects. We'll we got those as well, but the screenies of them probably wouldn't have looked as impressive as big gaudy effects.
With that in mind, I would like to give my impression of each of the effects, and would encourage other to do so as well. We have been crying for communication. Let's give them something to go back to the table with.
The Emotes I liked a lot were:
hologlitter, sparky, champange, blossom
Next in line are those that I kinda liked:
hearts, butterflies, brainstorm, holonotes, beehive,
Ones that I didn't care for, but could live with:
bubblehead, phonytail, bullhorns.
The I found hideous and would charge 200k for if anyone asks for them (j/k):
Haunted, kitty, imperial, and rebel.
Final thoughts. No, they are not what I envisioned, and perhaps not what I wanted. It is new content that is fairly cool though, and I will have fun with it. Do I still want what I, and many of us, envisioned? Hell yes, and perhaps we will still get it. I have faith in Kwee to twist developers arms.
