Thread: my thoughts on ID XP

as it stands right now, the xp in image designer is majorly slow compared to other classes (i know this has been said already but be patient). the other night i decided to start image design because i thought it would be a fun RP addition to smuggler. so i start grinding and immediately get bored after an hour of being on the same box under entertainer. after 8 hours of non-stop grinding i finally get through the first 3 boxes and log for the night. Now tonight i log in and grind 7500 xp under the 4th box and a fellow guildy comes up to help me grind (i had to ID myself for the first 3.5 boxes)and i help him work medic by tumbling while i was IDing him. He was 2/4/4/4 under medic when we started, and in the time it took me to gain 25k xp he gained 100kxp and was 3 boxes (in the same tree) into combat medic before i even had my first box under image design. they really need to fix the 2.5 minute wait to make a change under ID to come more in line with other professions.I know this has also been said countless times, but either the timer needs to be cut in half, or the xp gained needs to be increased for not only having to ID yourself but for IDing others as well, because you have to ID yourself 90% of the time as its almost impossible to find someone willing to sit with you for long periods of time to practice on them. and it shouldnt have to wait another month to get fixed, they really should hotfix this asap.

So, I'd like to Master Entertainer, so that I can play the Mandoviol. I made another account, so with 2 of my guys and 2 droids, I'll have a fine little band at my disposal, for events. Sounds fun, right? Well, read on.

I've worked through every other part of Master Entertainer, except the ID skills. So, it began - a frustrating ID experience. I see no reason why a new player would think, "Wow, this is great! I sit in a tent and talk to myself, fixing my hair for weeks straight!" The casual gamer would have a *very* difficult time doing anything useful with ID, and most likely would just give up for something a bit more rewarding - dancer or musician, maybe. Anything else, where you feel like you're making progress.

I made it to ID1st level, and I got 1 more hair design to do. One. And again, as many have said, if a new player chooses a race that doesn't have changable hair, they're stuck. What, you say? Find someone to ID? Good luck.

I (very politely, I might add) asked tent patrons if I could change their hair, I was a novice entertainer and needed to learn some ID skills. No reply. I asked, every ohhhh 30 minutes maybe, "so how's everyone doing tonight?" or "So how do you guys like ID?" No reply. "What's the news in Theed today?" No reply. Completely ignored for 2 1/2 hours, except for when a Master took time out of her night to suggest I Image Design myself for xp - I thanked her for that advice, but said the xp gain was 1/2 of what I could make if someone would help me out a bit. Did she offer help? No. Gee, she was too busy staring at the tent flap (there were no clients in the tent at the time). She sure snapped to it when I asked if someone could teach me ID 2, though - regardless of the 5 clients lined up for stat migration. Boy, she couldn't get those app points fast enough.

My point in this? Your profession has turned into this sort of introduction for a new player. Had I been a new player, and spent3 hours to get just a 2nd box in Entertainer, and been ignored while I stood in a tent that long, I'd say so long ID, hello something with a pulse.

Blame the Devs, if you like, for the changes they made. I understand that you didn't ask for this change. But realize this - you didn't have to really deal with Novices before - they just got their stuff done and Mastered ID quickly. Or at least, got to a point of being a somewhat useful ID. Those days are very much gone. Since xp gain has ground to a halt, do an examine on folks - see how many profs they've mastered. If they're a hologrinder and you don't want to help, fine - I guess I'm not going to fight that fight.

But seriously, help your Novices, folks - today's Novice Entertainer could be Tomorrow's Master Doctor. When you need a resurrection in a tight spot, it could them who save you. Being ignored for hours upon hours, with nothing to do but stare at an ID screen and Examine people's profiles makes names stick fairly well in people's minds.

I humbly suggest that your profession mature a bit, and start taking Novices under your wings. They need help, folks. Unfortunately, in your chosen profession, it takes 2 to tango - given the rate of xp and the timers, ID'ing someone is necessary to feel like you're achieving something with your time. Also, a little encouragement goes a long way - tell em to keep at it, it's fun when you're master, you make good stat migration money if you want it, etc. Help out your new folks! They're not all hologrinders.

Now, last but most definitely not least, I understand that many of you would have behaved differently and would have been more accomodating to a new guy. That's wonderful, and keep it up - lead by example, and I appreciate how well you treat new people. Thus far, though, on Starsider in the Theed ID tent, my experiences have been nothing but disappointing with fellow ID's. Sitting in a tent, fighting to socialize in a 2-3 hour timeframe is just kind of sad.

Final word on the subject - Devs, fix the ID xp situation, already. This is beyond ludricrous.

Thanks for reading what I have to say.

I agree wholeheartedly, this profession was previously the easiest to gain, now it is downright IMPOSSIBLE to level. There just aren't enough people out there to ID on, and even if you could it is still SLOOOOOOW. I mastered bounty hunter, which I thought was the slowest profession until I ran into ID today. I understand that Master in 3 hours is ridiculous, but so is 300 hours of standing in a tent and begging people to give them haircuts. The time limits need to be cut to 25% of their current restrictions, otherwise, nobody is going to master this profession again. This is particularly unfair, as most of the current masters gained it in 3 - 4 hours of simple macroing.
