Thread: How to get rid of the ID timer and still stop the grinders

1. Instead of having a timer until the ID can take effect, create a timer until the next time you can ID that same person. That will stop grinding, but not stop real ID.

For example: Joe wants to ID Fred, Bob, and Mike. Joe ID's Fred (and the ID takes place instantly; no timer!). Now Fred has a timer so that no one can ID him for 2 minutes, but in the mean time, Joe can ID Bob and Mike and anyone else he wants.

This way Joe can ID as many people as he wants, but he is unable to grind ID on one person.

2. If you don't like suggestion 1, then at least get rid of timer for self ID! I don't care if I get little or no xp from ID on myself, but when I want to change my lipstick color, I want it now!

Good idea as long as we can self ID as much as we want without ever getting a timer ^_^

You can't stop grinding, You can only make it harder and longer.

In my opinion this timer is just making things worse for IDs. With the new FS unlocking system not far away what is the point in adding the timer now when its purpose will be gone? All its doing now is holding the profession back from being an easy going fun profession for people who aren't interested in mega hard work.

I'll admit that I am a grinder and I would much prefer to be able to do ID in 30mins but as it takes a hell of a lot longer now then i'll most probably resort to paying someone else to let me ID them.

The timer is a complete joke and valubo's idea is a much better solutionthat will not hinder the profession when the problem has gone.

"""With the new FS unlocking system not far away what is the point """

I would have to agree with mincepie

personal rant: Why is everyone so concerned with grinders? Does it not just mean that we're working harder than anyone else at this game ? afterall i put in some crazy hours playing this game and am very appreciative of each prof i have made it thru.

As time consuming Prof grinding is, It as afforded me the ability to test and try out many different profs
(something i would NOT have done if the way to open your slot was quest-based from day one.)

However : COMBINE ENTERTAINER, MUSICIAN, DANCER AND ID is it really necessary to stretch SWG content to make each of these a sepereate prof ??How bout master entertainer is the top of the tree and /musician, dancer and id are all columns of this prof,

Just my opinion...........

I am not concerned with grinders; I am concerned with the TIMER because it makes it extremely difficult for me to funtion in my chosen profession. The existence of the timer is a direct result of grinders, so I thought I would offer a suggestion to slow grinding (which seems to be SOE's goal with the timer) without hurting legitimate ID.

I personally don't care about grinders in ID, but SOE does care, and their implementation of the anti-grind timer has hurt me and other non-grinders.

I really, really, really hope that after holocrons are gone, they will remove the timer entirely. Until then, I think there is a better way to stop grinders WITHOUT harming true ID players.

You can't stop grinders and theres no point in wasting time trying to anymore.

The timer problem can be solved if the timer is placed on the customer instead of on the Image Designer. For example, if you change my lipstick color, then no one can ID me for 2 minutes, but you can continue to ID other customers without any timer on you.

I don't want to stop grinders. I don't care about grinders. But SOE apparently DOES want to stop grinders. I am simply giving a suggestion for them to be able to slow down grinding without harming real Image Designers.

The timer harms legitimate ID in an attempt to stop grinders. My suggestion is to put the timer on the customer instead of on the Image Designer. That way would slow down grinders just as much as the current system, but it would not harm honest Image Designers who are not holo-grinding.

Or you could remove the timer entirely, andlimit ID training to one, two, three, or fourboxes per day...

Then it would take several days to master the profession, without it being hideously boring.

The real issue in the post was the timer. But I can see a potential flaw depending on how long this "time before I can work on you again' thing is. Because more than once I have this happen..

Me: Alright, anything else or are we through?

Them: That's it.

Me: Alrighty then. ::Clicks accept.::

Them: OH! How about those holo emotes!

Me: ::sigh:: ...accept what I've sent becuse I can't back it up. ::Starts a new session with the same person.::

The devs created the grinders when they created the silent holo. It's not the grinders fault that they are forced to grind all the professions to create the character they truly desire. The timer just hurts everyone, from customers, to IDers to grinders. No one has been spared. It doesn't improve the quality of game nor the fun factor. All updates should be improving at least one of those two things.

Wrong.

Grinders existed long before the Holocron path was known.

Even in the Image Designer profession. I know a handful of them who were afk-grinding in fact... In fact, it was one of our issues before the HoloCron path became known.

The Timer is there because of a distinct change in philosophy for the Image Designer, that of having batch-changes instead of a sequence of minutial/incremental changes.

It's actually faster for me to perform a full-body makeover now than before [without the aid of say food or certain buffs].

Further it appears it's a philosophy change that may have been unavoidable with the nice composite ID UI we have.

The timer penalizes those who are seeking minutial changes...

Most memorable SWG quotes:

"Get on board the falcon kid. This place is gonna blow." (How can you forget something you've heard over 100 times in a row?)

I have a better & easier way....just eliminate the ability for buffs to work on ID changes. Ah, for that matter just scrap buffs entirely from the game. they are a forced interaction time/money sink & detract from spontanious gameplay as it is.

Okay, end of rant. That's actually not a bad idea...as long as ID's can self ID. And the time limit should definately be kept under two minutes, because if customers change their minds about a particular change we should be able to fix it without having to make them wait to long.
