Thread: Image designer Lingo!!
Though I am not an image designer, I am a roleplayer. At times I like to change my characters look so I can keep him fresh and new all the time. But, since I am a roleplayer, it gets a little annoying constantly having to talk out of character for an image design. I don't wanna sound like I am complaining though.
Thinking about this got me to wondering if maybe we should develop some Designer lingo. Of course if I wanted to change my hairstyle I could ask for a haircut, or if I wanted to get a different tatto as a zabrak, just ask for a new tat, or something...cos of course i must appear cool at all times*pft, rolls eyes*. But what if I wanted to be shorter ..... "umm....can you...heh...short my legs for me?" Now to me that sounds a little sketchy. So with lingo it would make things easier to stay in character, and funner for the ID's. dun ya fink? heh heh

I always RP when doing Image Design for someone. There is very little left in SWg that interests me (not being a fighter). I am a Master Merchant and Master Image Designer. The only things keeping me are my PA and RP'ing, so I always RP when giving someone a haircut or some cosmetic surgery.
I just say things like, your nose is a little... err, obvious. Would you like me to fix that?
Or, let me show you some of the latest fasions. How about this?
It is quite easy to RP and I am suprised that the Image Designers you visit are not RP'ing. In my experience, people who enjoy playing the Image Designer class are usually the sort of people who look for satisfaction from RP'ing rather then quickly helping somebody change their character appearance.
Patron: I want a new look.
Me: I think I can help you. Were you looking for a new hairstyle, or did you want to go with something more dramatic?
Patron: Just hair, I think...
Me: I have a wide range of styles. Did you know what type of look you were going for? Or did you want to just try a couple of things?
Patron: I want something cool.
(This is my most common type of customer.)
Me: Let me show you some styles I've learned recently. (I show them some of the styles that weren't available during character generation.)
By the time we figure out their hair, I've gotten a pretty good idea of what kind of look my patron is trying to achieve and how much roleplay they're into. I might continue on by asking if I can 'fine tune' their look by augmenting their facial features. Most will ask suggestions or completely turn the reigns over to me. I will communicate as I make changes, explaining why I'm giving them a little more chin or a tiny bit more weight. I can ask if they'd like to be taller or shorter and it doesn't seem to harm the RP.
I try to avoid talking about the interface (except the hairstyles one that's currently broken - I let them know that I'm usually a bit more efficient when everything's working correctly).
One of my favorite clients was a zabrak male who asked me to make him as fearsome as possible. We had so much fun and he was thrilled with the results.
I love it when a customer comes to my salonand wants to roleplay the session
Some things customers have asked me while roleplaying:
1/ Will this hurt?
2/ Do you do anything to ensure there is no pain involved with the procedure?
3/ Could you take a little bit off the top
4/ I actuallywant my hair to be longer, can you do that?
Some other suggestions:
1/ Are you licensed todo plastic surgery?
2/ Do you use sterilized tools while doing medical procedures?
3/ I have heard there is a procedure that involvesbone implanting/removal for those seeking a height change...
4/ Do you pluck eyebrows?
Have fun!!! And thanks for posting, great topic ![]()
I've had one customer ask would it hurt. I answered "No...well probably not.....well not much....well when I say not much I mean not for long.....errrr....in fact forget all that...yes it will."
It all depends on the customer of course...you get the "Max height, max muscle...I want to look mean" type of customer...then you get the "Min height, everything dark/black....I want to look dangerous" type of customer. These are the guys who don't want to RP, they just want the job done.
Then you get that dream customer that tells you something like "I'm thinking of changing my eye colour, markings and maybe some other things. Maybe adjust my figure as well. What do you think?". When they realise thatthe Image Designer does know about colour contrasts, etc....you suddenly find yourself with a very loyal customer. These are also the customers who are more open to RP'ing the session even if they don't RP as a rule. The number of females that blush and whisper that "Could you do something with my....errr chest?" is quite astounding. ![]()
