Thread: How do you roleplay ID mods?

Here's one of my favorites, I play up the pain of the more violent or surgical procedures a great deal, and have Kwee have sadistic gleams in her eyes and do the occasional "Muhaha!":

Height: First I ask them if they want a pain killer. Then I strap them to a large rack of wood and metal, then lean on a crank. If the person screams I tell them I haven't even started yet haha.

It was rare I could find a person willing to roleplay out an image change, but when I could.. ooh boy!

One person wanted to see some "crazy" hairstyles.. so, I would do something like .. "Well, we could try.. *razor slips out of her hands* Erm... how's that?" And show them the fallen mohawk or as I like to call it.. the sideways skullet. If they shriek in terror, I'd get out the hairplugs!

What else.. skin changes were always fun. If it was a human orzabrakgetting darker skin, I'd stick them in a high-powered tanning bed for a couple seconds. Presto! Dark skin! For other species, it could get interesting. I'd do the same thing you do, Kwee, and offer a painkiller.. .. or ten. It varied how I'd roleplay out the actual skin change.. from slapping on the new skin.. to painting them.. to removing their old skin and then replacing it with a new one. ... Ew.

I deal with skin color with the "tanning bed". Peeling skin is so unattractive.

Note to self: stop juxtaposing two seperate thoughts like that. As Aime said, we rarely have clients in the salon—I've only had one, in fact. The RP is generally taking place in the cantina, or at someone else's shop (hello, I'm shopping now is not the time to ask me for ID )

Personally whenever I get a request to make someone shorter, thinner or adjust torso size I whip out a 2-handed curved sword and tell them, "Stand very still, because this is really going to hurt!"

I am more than a little curious how you manage to roleplay in the 47 seconds before the shuttle is set to arrive.

Seriously though, this is something I have been curious about. I have noticed that even though my partner, Eicia, and I have a salon, we rarely ever have customers come to us. Usually, they either want us to meet them in thier location, or it's someone thatnotices us while waiting for the shuttle. In either case, it is difficult to actually roleplay the changes, since you are not in your 'home' location.

Do you not accept 'on the fly' ID sessions? If not, how do you get people to schedule appointments without losing the business?

The extent to which I roleplay a session depends mostly on my client. For the large majority, they're not looking for RP, they just want some quick tweaks (which end up taking half an hour) and I accomodate that. For those that are more into RP, I try to accomodate that, too. While I've never gone so far as to suggest a rack—although I like the idea, I think it's time to figure out how to kludge one in the salon —I do go with the age-defying cream, hair dye, and other run-of-the-mill beauty products to explain the changes I'm making.

The GI Joe article and thread are pretty timely! I just made Master Artisan and *still* (definately not a power gamer here.) working on ID for my holo and thinking "How can I make this fun?" Then it hit me, a combo bike shop/gym/tattoo emporium!

If you feel the need for speed, come on in and get a deed!

Change your body, yes it's true! Come on in for a new tattoo!
