I started a character on Intrepid to be a dancer/medic so I could have a nice dual-support career. I decided to go into the Salon in Bestine and see what ID was like. What a great interface!
I sat in the tent and changed my hairstyle over and over to see what it would be like to advance in ID and boy is it hard.
I finally got my first box and was completely worn out.
I'd like to follow ID but how does anyone ever advance, particularly with that horrible timer? I'm not looking to macro my way to greatness, I don't use any macros on any of my characters but 50 xp a minute is a long way just to get to the next box of ID. How will I ever make it to Novice ID at this rate?
Kind of confused how anyone can stick with this line since it is so painfully slow to advance and get the more interesting skills.
thanks

Let me give you the advice I give everyone - ID is a wonderful profession, but the timers as they are suck. There is hope. See this stickie. So my advice, based on that stickie, is to wait a bit. Maybe you end up waiting a month, but the alternative is grinding painfully during that month and still not finishing.

Maybe post on your server boards looking for another person striving to be an image designer. then you two can take turns working on eachother.

You can get 100xp if you ID someone else. Find a dancer/musician friend also interested in ID and take turns. You can continue to entertain while you're being ID then stop briefly when it's your turn, start ID process then continue dancing/playing music after the 15 second timer. Helps time go by quicker, kind of a pain to have to stop dancing but you're basically getting two kinds of XP. Once you reach ID2(i think) you get option to change eye color, worth 300xp on another person, 150xp on self. It doesn't have to be painful, have fun with it!

You can also craft (medical thingies or whatever) while image designing.

You can also dance while doing an ID session - you just have to stop dancing, start the ID session, and start dancing again. I press alt so the interface disappers and I can chat with people in hte cantina. Since I have a short term memory this works okay-ish for me. I usually get so busy talking with people I forget I have the session going in the background.
After you get novice it become more enjoyable. People are more willing to try out the non-master stuff if you are already giving them something they want (a stat migration).

Are you suggesting IDing in the cantina, Paks, because that's slower than in the Salon.

Thanks for all the info. I think I'm going to wait and see if the timers go down before I dig in.
I'm just going to focus on the dance/medic side for now.

I'm not quite sure you can master dancing, medic and image design, you might want to check that. (I'm too lazy to do it)

Yes, I know - but the timer doesn't really bother me when I'm doing something else that's interesting. I usually don't remember I have the ID session going until affter its long done anyway!
