During the Halloween time period I was approached by several people to do special temporary ID work and then revert the changes after. It reminded me about the discussions that had been brought up here in the past about being able to do costumes and such and after mulling the ideas around in my head for a bit, I figured it would be a good time to reintroduce the idea for discussions.
How I personally see it implemented would go along the lines of this, especially in light of the new interface for doing our work. From pure speculation, I am guessing that the main table used to store character informationhas a link to a foreign table that holds the dynamic character visual traits. To implement the costume idea would be to add 3 columns to the main table. One would be a Boolean field for costumed, second would be a time field for the time the costume was applied, and the third would be a link to a duplicate of the visual traits table that would be the last set values.
On the actual ID interface screen under the advanced tab would be a check box for “costume”. If this was checked, the values from the “current visual traits table” would be copied to the “most recent visual traits table”, the time would be set to the time of commit and the Boolean field would flipped to yes. Then 24 hour real hours after the costume was applied, the values from the most recent table would be moved back to the current table and the costumed Boolean field would be reset to no. A new command would need to be added as well, something like /dropCostume which would do the same thing but not have to wait for the expiration of the 24 hours. Additionally, ID changes at all could be made to the customer while the costumed value was set to Yes.
Overlaid on top of this are some interesting possibilities. We already know that species changes are not allowed by LucasArts, and adding say Lekku to a full human, or human hair to a Wookie was at one time an exploit that was fixed, there is a desire for those things by the player community at large. With costuming, these possibilities may be allowable. Open up some of the options based upon the skill of the ID. At Hair 1 for example, allow the ID to place human hair on a wookie. At Hair 2 allow the ID to place Lekku on Humans and Human hair on Twilleks. Hair three add Zebrak’s to the equation, etc. With the knowledge that they will automatically drop at 24 hours and no additional changes could be made while one costume set was in place it could be a fun thing for parties and etc. If large scale changes on a temporary scale bring up the fear of griefing, a solution would be to add a (COSTUMED) tag above the head similar to the (HELPER) tag already in place, and the /examine window always shows the most recent values, not the current values, if the costumed field is set to Yes.
Other limitation could be put in place as well. Obviously no racial benefits would be gained by looking like something else, but perhaps not being able to wear racial specific clothing. This could open up cross profession interaction. A human or zebrak with Lekku wouldn’t be able to wear the lekku wraps, but a tailor might be able to craft a special costume wrap usable only by a person with the costume flag set. The same for some species specific clothing. Another thought would be severe combat penalties for being in costume, they are bulky and off balance after all, but with the ability to drop costume at will, this would not be a significant factor for the combat type who needs to get go fighting on a moments notice.
I know that to do this right would be a medium to long term project. There would need to be table changes in the database, the ID interface would have to be updated (the basics of what woudl be needed are already there, but new options would have to be coded into place, etc). It's ust an idea I’ve bandied about and thought I’d throw out for comments.

it's a nice idea that we shouldn't forget about...I cannot say much about chances for seeing something like this being implemented, but it won't be any time soon for sure.

If you've actually looked at the time stamps on dev posts, you will see that they are working nights and weekends. Please don't insult them with obviously untrue claims.

Indeed. And it's never a good idea to insult those, who are working hard and overtime to make this game better... especially when you hope they will implement something you like to see in the game.
