Heh... there are so many "types" of MIDs it's hard to keep track of them:
There are IDs who made Master the old fashoned way back when SWG first went live (and your mind stat made a difference), there are IDs who made Master in 40 minutes (from before timers and after mind enhancing stuff), there are IDs who made Master when stat migrations were worth 600 xp for the 10 minutes they took back then (and eye color was the top xp maker), there are IDs who made Master after the xp value of stat migrations went up to 2k (but still took 10 minutes), there are IDs who took their own sweet time about getting to Master regardless of which system they made it under, now there will be IDs who make Master after the timers get reduced (and I'm sure I missed a few type of MIDs in my catalog).
I know that I for one can never keep track of who Mastered ID under which system (other than my own characters of course). I'm sure that you will fit in just fine... and you can still tell the "uphill both ways" type of stories to those who willnever know the 10 minutes stat migration timers.
Considering that the ID community campaigned for reduced timers, I'm willing to bet that all new IDs will stillbe given the respect they deserve.

For ID's, I think the endgame counts far more than the journey. There will be months and months for you to perfect your expertise and figure out what looks good, and how you can translate customers' requests into slider positions. That is a skill that makes someone a good ID whether they spent 40 minutes clicking, or 40 hours.

N'jessi, good post. I couldn't agree more. Mastering is a lot more than merely grinding to fill the skill boxes. I'm not a master yet either and I still get customers who need fixing because they had met an ID who was less skilled in transfering wishes into a pleasing result.
If you do well, you will build your own reputation and then it matters even less how you got to be a Master ID.

understanding what a customer wants and satisfying their needs is probably the toughest task of being an image designer. it can probably be safely said that people have an idea of what they want, but noone knows exactly what they want. and that is when the skill of an image designer comes into hand.
i can sort of relate the "sliders" in image designer to weapon experimentation. i have weaponsmith down to a science when it comes to the items i produce, i know exactly what im going to experiment before i do it, i have 100% confidence when making custom weapons with high end loot and i understand what will effect what stats and what is best for each specific customer. becoming comfortable as an image designer is important, as one can establish a repoire with their clients and better understand their wants and needs.
as for how long it takes to master, times have changed, and noone should be penalized or immortalized with regards to the timeframe of this game that they mastered image designer. there is no "shame" if you happened to master it when it took 1 hour. like stated above, image designer has an awesome endgame. i mastered last night (11/16/04) and i spent a good hour messing with my ID and playing with look. and im sure i will end up changing my ID's look daily assuming im able to log her on.
