Thread: Ideas for new holoemotes
I know that IDs are not due for anymore attention for a long time, but still I want to throw out a fun idea that has been floating in my head. Eventually when the time comes round again maybe we can see something like this.
I love the new emotes they added with JTL and I also love our holoemotes.
The idea I had was to add holoemotes that mirror some of the regular emotes that we get. There are a few emotes I use on a very regular basis that I would love to have holo-enhanced versions of, complete with actual character animation similar to the new regular emotes. For instance:
regular emote: /halo (Tash smiles at you and dons her halo)
holoemote: /holo halo (your hand goes to the top of your head and a sparkling halo appears as if you have just placed it there)
regular emote: /innocent (Tash does her best to look innocent)
holoemote: /holo innocent (you clasp your hands behind your back and smile. A small pair of cherubic wings appear behind you)
regular emote: /blowkiss (Tash blows you a kiss [this already has a nice animation])
holoemote: /holo blowkiss (the same animation as /blowkiss but a stream of sparkles, hearts, lips or something streams off of your hand towards the person you are blowing kisses to, or in the direction you happen to be facing if you have no one targeted)
There are some other really cool emotes I'd love to see holo version of. I don't know how many people actually use holoemotes but Tash and my other entertainer characters use them constantly. They are also a highly requested item. What other emotes and animations would be cool? I was thinking /holo hotself with a glowing hand print appearing... somewhere... but that might be too naughty! ![]()
Looking at some of the effects Jedi have makes me think that our emotes were the "practice" for this new system. Our emotes look great, Jedi effects look awesome, what will the future be like? As the technology and the graphics get better and better I really look forward to the time they can add more stuff for us!

I love this idea. This is a wonderful example of the logical extension and joining of the two systems. The question then raised it would each "paired emotes" be a seperately purchased item, or rather, would you by an "emote ehancer" module that would be good for any regular emote that was so enhanced.
I guess a better way of phrasing that would be. Rather than having separete /holo commands for the various social emotes , instead let the customer buy an "emote enhancer". Then, using your example, when character the does the "/halo" emote, it would automatically use the enhanced version. Once the charges run out, the regular emote would be used instead.
Just running and brainstorming with your idea. Again, it's wonderful! ![]()
I would add to the list:
/love - so that you can have the "so and so loves x" text appear, the love motion, and the already existing hearts (it's actually a bit complicated to coordinate /love and the /holo hearts)
/wave - any sort of flashy lights oo oo over here
/(that slit throat gesture) accompanied by a skull
/slap - some sort of flash would be cool
/blush - actually get some blush on those cheeks!
If the use of holoemotes were actually tied to emotes, I think we'd need the following features
/holo off - if it's automatically tied to emotes once you get the package, you shoudl be able to turn them off so as not to waste them.
increase holoemote packages to 50 if they are used more often.
I wonder, however, what that would do to lag issues?
I really like that! You could have the enhanced emotes listed under the regular holoemotes in /holo help or, even better, in ctrl-A where all the regular emotes are listed you could have (enhanced) listed next to the ones that have holos attached. That way you could get the emote blurb above your head at the same time the holo appears instead of typing /holo blowkiss;/blowkiss.

The only drawback I can see is that if you did have emotes that had specialized holos like my /blowkiss example they would look odd if you were doing something else. For instance dancing exotic and typing /blowkiss would make the stream appear, but the emote animation would not be there, which could be confusing.
But this is an idea thread, not a problems to be overcome thread - we can let the designers worry about limitations and stuff.
Edit: I just saw N'Jessi's post - I love the blush idea! I use that one a lot too (grin). And the /holo off command is excellent too. I actually wrote a little macro for /holo hearts;/pause 2;/love for use on special occasions.

The places where people usually use these emotes are usually so lag-ridden I don't think anyone would really notice the difference.

The simple way around that issue would be not to replace the standard spacial text for enhanced emotes. So the /blowkiss while skill animating would still send the spatial text that "XXX blows a kiss at YYY" or whatever the exact quote is, and then have the sparkly stream appear. Still a bit odd looking but will reduce some of the wierdness of it.
As for the lag issue. That's something that would have to be investigated by the Devs. I"m not sure how much of an impact it would have. With the standard emotes, the characters all move about which is another chunk of data in the stream. This would add just a touch more. For those that are really effected or bothered by it, add an option on the graphics tab to not show enhanced emotes. That makes it a client side issue.
Just continuing the brainstorm. ![]()
Edit: due to my inability to type today. Taking a break in the frenzied cleaning prior to the family invasion /sigh /grin
