Thread: On crazy hair colors

I see a lot of misinformation on this topic out there so just wanted to clarify. In late September I sent a document to Jake Rodgers, the art director, which wasa compilation of a lot of wishing that had been done by many people in SWG Discussion on a thread I started. In Oct or Nov he emailed me to let me know that LucasArts/LucasFilm had approved crazy hair colors for SWG and that he would look into implementing it. At that point I passed on the info to the ID community, stating that it might never make it to the game, but that the odds were higher now that it had been approved by Lucas' companies. I hope, looking back, that Jake Rodgers intended for me to pass on the information, he certainly never said I shouldn't, and I wasn't a correspondent at the time.

After I did become a correspondentItoldTH that expanded color palettes were one of our top wish list items and, we hoped, might be easy to implement. He can't be expected to know everything that happened in every profession before he even had his position. As it is he now juggles the issues of 38 correspondents. A few days before he posted these ten answers we specifically talked about expanded color palettes and he said he would look into it when he could. Even so, Thunderheart is in a way a correspondent himself. He can't force the devs to do anything just like I can't force him to present any idea I want to the devs. I really hope we get some extended color palettes soon, but I have no knowledge at this time of SOE having given the green light for them. As soon as I know something (and the info is ok'd) I will let you know. And believe me anything I find out I will ask (beg) that I be allowed to pass it on asap. Know that this is one of the things I am pushing hard for right now, because of our belief that it might be implementable fairly easily. I'm also petitioning for other things of course, bug fixes, and our top eleven issues are kicking around somewhere in SOE land. I watch the corr forum like a hawk and participate in corr events, and am doing my best to put forth our cause. I am confident that Thunderheart is doing the same on his part, as much as can be expected when split over 38 topics.

So I hope this post was informative and encouraging, as well as throwing in a tiny bit of realism. Really think of everything as starting from scratch in Dec, not back at launch. The reality is that time was not being put aside before expressly to cover top issues of eveyr profession, and now it is. We are only now in Jan starting to see the fruit of that change in strategy. You have all been so very supportive in helping me do my part. I'm doing my best to help Thunderheart do his.

Kwee,

Thanks for the up-date and all your hard work

Personally I think crazy hair colors should only be withtemporary IDs, and would be the best way to get locus's OK. but ether way I'll be happy. So keep up the good Great work!

Iunderstand and I always feel really bad for Thunderheart. He isn't a developer and he has no real control over anything. All he can do is listen to people and act as a lobbyist. He has almost none of the power and takes a lot of the blame for everything that happens with this game. I am sure that if we got brightly colored hair that there would be a lot of people screaming at him asking why he is spending time on such stupid and worthless things when you can't even get an FWG5 that does 400 damage anymore or something like that and that they are quitting the game. The fact is that he has no control over what the devs do or what they think is important.

My gripe is with the developers of the game. They created this wonderful system where you could play no matter what playstyle you like. You can grind towards a goal, you can fight, you can socialize...pretty much whatever you want. But now they seem completely fixated on combat. Yes, they added vehicles and player cities which were supposed to be in the game in the first place. I think that they did a pretty good job of it even though there were some rough spots. But aside from this, there is absolutely no talk of anything new for the social professions. I have the feeling that nothing is being worked on for image designers, tailors, dancers or musicians. They are all art department intensive and I think that they have the entire department working on the space expansion. I think that our time will come, but it is going to be a loooong time. It will probably be 6 months for the space expansion work to be done by the art department and by the time they finish with that and and they can start working on our stuff, no matter how simple it is, the rest of the development team will be swamped with work trying to fix and balance the space expansion. Meanwhile our professions are slowly dying. I was trying to grind another image designer on Kauri last night and I found two image designers logged on in the entire galxaxy. One was AFK dancing in Theed cantina and the other was on Rori and was just passing through the profession because of a holocron. Anyway, I really wish that they would hire a small team to work on profession issues so that they could work on major updates and professions at the same time. Surely it doesn't take a huge art team to add in what most of us want.

Oh...and to make this more on topic. All I ask for are hair colors kind of like the eyeshadow and lipstick colors that we already have! We have punk hairstyles, but we can't have a bright red mohawk!
