Thread: Worth it to master?

It seems like the only thing anyone needs done is migration...since you can do that at novice ID, is it better to just stay there and do migrations and use the saved skill points for something else. I know you lose some of the timers and the ones that stick are reduced. If I thought there was a demand for people getting their ID done too I might consider putting in another 250,000 hours to the grind of ID but it seems that novice would save me the trouble and let me make some cash.

Most definitely worth it to master. Not only do you get to do instantaneous changes on yourself, but people actually do want ID work done. There is a point to this profession. Thing to realize:

People (typically) only want masters to do their ID work. They don't really care who does a stat migration (though some don't know the difference). What I'm trying to say is: people search for master ID's to get ID changes. Logging into Coronet w/ my MID title on usually gets me 2 or 3 tells before I can even see Coronet. I turn people away for stat migrations because it can get so busy and make them wait for a novice (who could use the $ and xp much more).

I definitely think that it's worth mastering. Plus, I don't find migrating stats very fun. Why would you want to do that?

I do suggest enjoying migrating stats while you are grinding though. But it seems like that's all you want to do. What do you get out of it? Credits? Not worth it. Helping others be happy with their toon, and you happy with your own? Definitely worth it.

Is it worth it? That totally depends on what you want out of it. If you only want ID so you can do stat changes, then there is no need to go beyond novice...But if you enjoy altering the look of your own char or creating new & interesting looks for other players, then you would probably like it.

To me, this is what ID is really all about...the stats & holo emotes are side-jobs.

I personally mastered it because i never got "the perfect look" and was constantly paying 10k for a simple shade of lip color. Now i change myself whenever i please and can get any color outfit all i have to do is ID myself ( im a twi'lek, and purple doesn't really go with bright red lol)

I LOVE being a master ID. I have three professions in the game that I will never, ever give up: dancer, tailor and ID. I just wish we had enough skill points that I could put all three of them on the same character. >.< I'm paying an extra $15 a month for 29 lousy skill points.

As one who has mastered ID on 6 characters I definately believe that it is worth it. As far as I'm concerned, stat migrations are a means to an end (the ability to "make pretty") and are not "real" ID work at all. As a Novice ID, there is not much you can do other than the stat migrations... as a Master, the world opens up and you have TONS of things you can do to alter how people look... and that is the POINT of ID. I plan to eventually have MIDs on all 7 of the servers where I have characters and am only waiting for certain problems to be dealt with in my town before geting my ID to be there to Master as she has too many skill points tied up in other things that I plan on dropping but can't until the town issues are dealt with.

My MIDs:

  1. Bria: Ssumidra Merakat (Trandoshan)

  2. Corbantis: Sepia Kraken (Mon Calamari)

  3. Lowca: Elistra Moraven (Zabrak)

  4. Intrepid: Dar'yia Eiryneas (Rodian)

  5. Scylla: Miyax (Wookiee)

  6. Tempest: Lu'fra Maizing (Rodian)

Hi Ranger folk. I am looking for some guidance, encouragement, etc about the ranger profession. I started a secondary character a while back that i was determined to make into a master ranger. Well, I am at 4/2/4/3 right now and am at the point where I have to start making the tough skill point decisions. My intent originally was to master ranger and rifleman and use the left over for the management ch tree (could get up to mgt 3 i think which would allow me a level 18 or 19 pet).

Can someone tell me the what kind of advantages I will see, compared with what i currently have,by going ahead and mastering ranger (besides the dath camo kit)? For example, I saw a big difference in just going from 4/4/4/4 pikeman to master on my other character. Are there others of you that have opted not to fully master the profession, but instead using a sort of hybrid (probably not the right word) template? I would like to see some examples of other templates that rangers use. Thanks much.

I'll try to help.

I was master rifleman/master ranger medic 1000 for a bit. It's a great combo it really is. It's up to you how you see your character though. As a rifleman/ranger i found i didn't use traps often because I wasn't melee and I didn't want the mobs fighting me up close. However since you are thinking about doing the CH tree, you may want to hold onto traps...while your pet is tanking you toss traps and fire away....not bad whatsoever. However, think about the worst case scenario. Pet dies, you have no medic skills, mobs aren't dead and start closing in, you can't run because there's even tougher creatures in every direction. That's a "I wish i had medic" situation. It's always nice to be able to heal yourself. What you could do is not master ranger, keep 4440 (no trapping) and use the 20 skill points to get medic 2000, or 0020. Or you could get CH 4000 and go for medic 1000, or medic 0010. That way you can get even higher level pets, and you can heal yourself. Heck say you want to rough it the "ranger" way...and don't want to rely on speederbikes, or vehicles, and say you never use the cammo kits. Why not do CH 4004, Ranger 0440, master rifleman, medic 1000, or medic 0010. That way you can have tanks, transportation that you don't have to repair, huge camps, and harvesting bonuses, tracking, damage and wound healing, pluslittle need for buffs or armor.

To sum it up, there is no "right" way to do things. Every person is different. Choose what fits your personality. Any other questions check out the stickies above. I believe there is a "Questions about ranger? Readhere first."

good luck.

Thanks for the reply, Horned. The last combo you suggested sounds very intriguing. I guess it's nice to have all the choices, but it can be difficult trying to decide the course to take. I do have some medic now, and that is nice. Since you were master rifleman, did you have to drop the marksman ranged support tree? Did you notice it affecting your rifleman skills? Just curious, as that tree will need to be dropped for the skill points. I'll check out the info thread you mentioned as well.

I didn't even really care for the ranged tree. I felt Medic was much more useful. I didn't use aim that much...and tumbling only when the town medic needed xp hehe. Again it's up to you.
