Thread: Image Design Uniqueness

I heard about the change that image designers are going to become even 'more' of a unique profession than they previously were. Bear with me, and allow me to elaborate.

Hearing me say this you may think "Well, aren't all professions unique in some way? Like Smugglers being the only profession that can make spice or slice weapons and armor, or Doctors being the only profession that can place health and action based buffs on stats or Riflemen being the only profession that can go hunting the high end content (j/k)" Well, the truth of the matter is yes, many of the professions 'do' have a niche where if you want a specific service done, you have to go to them.

However, Until now, there have been only 2 services that absolutely required player interaction with another player. The first is doctor buffing. The second Image Design. Now, before you jump all over me with 'what about Battle Fatigue?' Let me tell you this. Few people are aware, but Campsites and Cantinas automatically heal small small amounts of Battle Fatigue over the minutes. That being said, I believe that the current function of Image Designers (being the only profession capable of changing the face and body type after a character has been created) is exactly the niche role they should fulfill.

Now what has changed? Image Designers are going to be given the 'sole'ability to migrate stats, and do it faster than it currently happens. While I would value having the oppourtunity to do this 'faster' if I so chose, and it does make sense for Image Designers to have the capability to tutor (mind changes) or teach physical fitness (for the others) what I don't like is that my ability to tweak my character over time is being completely removed.

Compare it to this (and if you're an image designer think objectively) How would you feel if the only way you could remove a skill was to go speak to another player? or worse, and this is more comparable, if you had to speak to an NPC who was located behind the Acklay in the Geonosian Laboratory? This is howI feel.

If you're wondering why it is because I saw my 'first' master image designer last night. I have been playing this game for most of it's run, starting from the beta. Now that accounts for the rarity. The second and frankly, more important, misgiving I have is this: If Image Designers are the only people in the ENTIRE of the game capable of shifting stats, players will no longer be able to simply let their abilities move over time: What is there to stop them from charging astronomical prices for this? I have already seen posts of Image Designers saying 'Well I'm probably going to charge around 100k'

Folks, even Doctors don't charge over 10k, and the funny thing is, if you don't want to get buffs, you don't HAVE to. Being Buffed isn't required to enjoy the game. But paying 100,000 credits (something I do not even HAVE in terms of money right now) for taking 50 points off my action and putting it into quickness is an absolutely ridiculous price.

Under those circumstances Image Designers would become like many of the Artisan professions. They literally have posts asking 'What do you do with your millions?' Because as one, they sell resources or items in excess of 3000% profit. This change will cripple new players who want to change professions and as was previously stated this announcement should not only get but 'deserves' a backlash by players.

*Calms Down*

I don't begrudge the idea that image designers can rotate stats quickly, but to give them sole power over this is a bad captial B A D idea. Please, A developer, Thunderheart, a sympathetic correspondant. Hear my plea.

I think letting only IDers migrate stats is a fantastic idea, but I'm an Image Designer just like the otherImage Designersthat hang around this forum.

Actually,I think at this point, it's more that IDers don't really care for being the exclusive point of service in that regard, and more so do not want to be the Frustration Vent for people being unable to migrate on their own.

Oh well, gives me some hope that they'll finally get the corpse functionality working [*eye roll*].

While I am one of the few who is truly looking forward to the stat migration, I do worry about becoming a venting board as Reiella stated. I have already deal with so much bs from people who come to me and think that I shouldn't charge at all, and that my prices are utterly outrageous (recently raised my prices to 2k per modification and 3k for skin colour). As far as I have seen, aside from those ID's who work soley on a tip base, I am one of the cheapest ID's around. Lately though my client base has dried up and it's my hope that this new stat migration will come in handy to revive what seems to be (at least for me) a dying profession.

I personally like us having the ability to make the migration faster. I also would like that players be allowed to have their slow migration (heck, it's taken me 3 days to get my stats migrated so far). If they are allowed to keep their original ability instead of having it unexpectedly ripped away, they are lesslikely to look at us asa nuissance. And they would be more amiable to coming to us for a near imediate stat adjustment.

So in short- I like

Player- normal stat migration as it is now

AND

ID- POOF! stats are done!

I do not like being yelled at, and if anyone dares blame me for this then I will refuse to help them. It is, after all, my perogative to offer the service. I hate to be mean about it, but like it was said, it wasn't our idea. And I won't be 'blamed' for something I have no control over and bullied.

... but really! I'm a nice person! ::giggles::

Remember the outcry about the crafter changes? They fixed that real fast. Hopefully they'll do the same here. I mean really, all they have to do is re-establish the original code that let players do slow stat changes...

You know what? I can't believe I'm finding myself saying this... but... I'm actually kind of, well, not horrified by the idea of ID's being the sole way to change stats now. I was at first. And I'm still outraged that we knew nothing about it until after the fact. But, ya know, it definitely gives us job security. And it will DEFINITELY be lucrative.

What 'horrifies' me most is that I ama tweaker, I tweak my stats alot by little amounts, hearing some ID's say they'll be charging 100k freaks me out if I would be totally unable to make the minor changes still. (I mean, what if I want to test a little change and then put it back if it's awful? I'm out 200k!)

Well i for one will vary my price depending on the amount of stat migration needed

discounts for other ID changes too.

Small migrations (1-50 point migrations) 5-10k - medium (50-100 points) 10-20K - and major changes will be around the 30-50k mark

Depending on the client (i'm rebel so imps get charged more ) i'll haggle my prices, but the 10min timer is the main cause for the prices
