Thread: New players and Stat migration

I have a question regarding the stat migration and new players in SWG. Recently on test center I started a new character under the scout profession, which starts me off with Health stats of 800/300/300, well once in Eisley i picked up brawler and have come to the realization that my stats are woefully inadequate for whatI am doing.

In perusing the boards i see that ID's are talking prices of up to 50k for a stat change. Well as you all know a New character is not going to have that kind of scratch laying around for a stat change. I am worried that the pricing and the time involved will unfairly hinder new players.

You as well no longer get the onetime modification of your stats on the space station, that would allow you to adjust your stats accordingly. Imagine if you started out an entertainer or a artisan and decided you would like to try the other half of the game, (combat) it is a serious disadvantage.

I was a fan of giving this ability to ID's and with established characters I see no problem with this feature, however with the time involved and the fees being discussed, the people that most need this feature (the new player) are being priced out accordingly. Has there been discussions regarding this or thought put into the the starting character?

Has there been any thought in workarounds for the new character?

Would they be able to do a modify on the space station before coming down?

Would new players be able to do a one time change to there stats once they try the game out and realize they like alternate profession better?

I am curious is all.

Personally i thought of this just rescently, and i won't be charging new players for stat migration. As you said, it would hinder the new player experiance, and i could imagine how frustrating that would be. Hopefully other IDs along with myself on Bria will be doing the same thing.

Although new players can adjust their stats instantly on the space station, once they arrive on a planet, and ID'er will be required for further migration. Now, I think everyone pretty much can understand that a new player might not know exactly how they want their HAM pool distribution until they play the game a little bit....

I think you'll find that ID'ers in general are usually very nice people ... kinda' goes with the territory, since ID is one of the more social professions.. requiring 2 players to meet and communicate with each other, so the types of people who are drawn to this profession tend to be nice and social people. That being said, I'm willing to bet that most ID'ers are willing to make exeptions to their normal pricing.. ie., a new player without many credits messed up their toon or, as you said, found out their current HAM setup isn't very effective and needs a migration.

Personally, I've never had a problems with giving out little freebie alterations to new/not-so-wealthy players (just as long as they are as nice to me as I am to them :smileywink

This is what I have doen and will continue to do: I pretend I'm an NPC.

In other words if a new player deicides that princess bun hairdo isn't quite as cool as it looked in the player creatikon screen. But only has a melon, I tell them to go get me 10 units of hide, or make me a firework, or dance for a few minutes for me, etc. I adjust do to their skills of course, and more often then not I end up giving them a small chunk of change to help them on their way. (note this a applies to new to SWG, not new to server or re-roll, and I have my ways of finding out)

Cheers
