Another "ability" of the Image Designer...
Not the type of ability you can make a macro for, or that will get you points, but another aspect of being an ID that, in a non-game environment, would be a crucial part of our profession...
Fashion Trend Pioneers
As Image Designers we are basically the guts of the fashion industry. Sure, the Tailors make the clothes, the dancers (and to a lesser extent, musicians) wear the clothes to a more obvious degree than most other characters, but we... we make the clothes and the body fit together.
What I would love to see, and as of this moment plan to try to create a guild around on Starsider, are ID's getting together to discuss fashion trends. This doesn't need to be a huge hoopla or anything. Just talk to other ID's when you're in a Salon. Decide what you're going to suggest to other characters is "in" or "out" of fashion, and when they come in for ID make these suggestions. You don't have to be pushy. There's nothing I love more about ID than when someone asks my opinion, or even better, when they tell me to go hog wild and do what I think is best! Love it. Now, I wouldn't suggest changing what's in style more often than once a month, and things can go out of and come back in style. We are more limited in clothing and body styles than real life after all.
Recently, I've inadvertantly done a bit of this myself without realizing it...
Dropping hints that char's who only wear composite armor 24/7 should try wearing real clothes and let the mildew in the armor die off.
Advising hair styles OTHER than that oh-so-cute-and-so-preppy last one on our chooser. Geh...hate that thing.
Watching and tipping dancers in the cantina who AREN'T wearing a Very Revealing Skirt and Metal Bikini. ...hussies!
Why is this a good idea? Well, for one, it has the possibility of bringing people into the Salons more often, to keep themselves looking... well, maybe not good, but in style anyway. This would mainly be centered around hair/lekku/horn styles, so even the new ID's can get in on it. It also helps out Tailors (provided they follow up on what's "in" when they make their clothes) giving characters a reason to buy more and different clothes. Like image, clothes never go away. Even when they reach 0 condition they can still be worn. I've got one friend who's had the same clothes for 2 years. This could even enhance the social aspects of being an ID in that we'd have Tailors coming to us asking what we feel would be coming into style. It can also help further personal character development. SWG is known to be a game with more options for character appearance than any other (though I'm sure we'd all be happy with more), and that helps people make their character special and different. I used to be a "goth" and one of the main things about being "goth" was being your own kind of "goth". I mean, that's what most fashion is about anyway, the bigshots do something counter to what's in style, others follow, and the new becomes the current until a bigshot goes counter to the current fashion.
Different styles could be in for different species. At one time Mystic Pants and Religious Robes could be in for Ithorians, while the abominable snowman look (primarily white fur and white and silver clothes) is in for Wookiees, while the sith look (all black and NOTHING BUT BLACK!!!) is in for Zabrak, while the sunworshipping look (dark tan, blonde hair) is in for humans, while the exotic floura look (tan skin and flourescent purple or blue markings) is in for Mon Calamari, etc.
ID's can go shopping and find the most well-stocked tailors in the galaxy, save the waypoint, and send ID clients to where the current fashions are being sold. Now, this could lead to Master Tailors getting more business than noobs, but not necessarily.. if the current trend is the sith look a Tailor at ANY level will do. The point is change, and therefore the Tailors you're sending people to should change as well.
There will always be "oldies but goldies", those things that never go out of style. Since 1950 you can always find a barber who can give you a buzz cut, and since launch you will always find a Twi'lek wearing a Lekku Wrap. But even these can go in and out of style without people being looked down upon for wearing them.
Finally, it's entirely optional whether you as an ID do any of this. Not doing it won't affect your growth or how much money you make. You don't need money or a schematic or weird resources to do it. Every ID can participate, from the Twi'lek who just got Novice Entertainer to the Mon Calamari Master ID. And it's easy to do. You don't even have to leave the Salon. All you need to do is have an opinion.
(...uh... that matches your fellow ID's...)

Hmmmm, not a bad idea - I was just saying to myself last night: "If I have to make one more Extremely Revealing Skirt, I'll go mad!"....

Isuppose, if you really wanted to do this, some coordination amongs a server's ID and Tailors could push certain looks. Develop a certain look (hair style, make-up, skin tones, clothing colors and designs) and offerit free or at a discount.Tell a newb or veteranhe can have the clothes free and/or a free migrationif he will accept your look. It has to be a good, distinctive look the you are willing to don yourself and talk up at every chance. Your server forum or the ID forum could be good ways to organize or server specific style channels.

I Like thisIdea!
I think we should keep it basic, something like earth tones are in for clothes, long hair is out, and bright color mustangs is the latest fad for pilots. May listing the possible trends would be a good place to start.
