Thread: Dug up an old beta post
I was looking through My Docs and found a thread from beta I saved that Holocron posted called "Top 10 Issues: Image Designers". Two things that came up over and over again were fixedat the end of beta. One was the fact that we couldn't ID ourselves. That was so awful! The other was that exp used to be sooooo much slower. The quick fix for ID'ers complaining that their services weren't wanted since they didn'thave anything unique from character creation was to takemost of the hairstyles(which were previously all available at char creation) and distribute them throughout the tree. That was also when we lost bald. There was great outrageon the general discussion board overnot being able to pick any hairstyle you wanted at char creation, you know the threads that go on for pages and pages...but then many of the veteran postersand I believeit wasQ3PO posted thatit had been intended that way all along, and that the hairstyles had only been available to all for testing purposes hehe. Anyway I thoughtsome of the elements in my post were kind of funny. Iwas really pushing for some tailor and architect things to be ID back then
Overall it reminded me that things could be a LOT worse than they are hehe. Imagine if we stillcouldn't ID ourselves, aaaah!
Top three disappointments:
1/ Inability to ID yourself. I'm ID'ing because my favorite part of SWG is the delicious char creator
2/ The fact that ID'ers have nothing unique to offer that the player can't get in char creation.
There is nothing super exciting to look forward to. What is my motivation for becoming an expert ID'er?
3/ Very little incentive for customers to seek you out. How does the profession tie into the vision of an interdependent player base? What do we have that would keep them coming back for more.
Suggestions:
1/ To keep customers coming back for more: Make all or some changes temporary. Example: The higher your skill the longer your dye job stays in someone's hair. At the end of a certain time frame, their hair reverts to their hair color at creation. In real life you have to go back to the hair salon to have your hair styled and dyed
You have to freshen up your makeup...
2/ Combine tailoring and ID. I was very disappointed when I found out that the ID profession would not be able to do anything with clothes. When I first read about the profession months ago in a gaming magazine I envisioned being able to change a person's entire look, head to toe.
3/ Add temporary cosmetic changes not available in char creation in any form. Some have already been suggested: bindis (on forehead), henna tattoos on limbs, piercings, hair accessories...which brings me to...
4/ Jewelry! Visible jewelry could greatly enhance a player's image
I think I read this was under tailoring? Image design as I envision it would have a Jewelcraft, Tailoring, Cosmetic, and finally...
5/ Interior Designer branch
Allow us to customize interiors with foofoo pillows, curtains, and here's a long shot but have ID'ers have access to interior objects like a rl interior designer
6/ Hmm one more thing... Ability to design guild emblems and personal emblems for display on spaceships, signs, cloaks, etc.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Very true. I've especially seen a decline in the customer base now that the majority of people have a favored hairstyle they want to keep over the long term. My customers tend to come with little tweaks in mind, like they just noticed their lips are too thin for example, or for skin colorchanges, those are common. I have a few entertainer customers that come often for small tweaks of weight, height, and hair. I do that to Kwee as I change clothes as different clothes seem to throw your weight or torso in odd directions. Like the low-cut and revealing tops...miracle bra anyone?

It seems you've come a long way, but some of those issues are still grazing the boards today.
