HiGuys,

I became a Master Image Designer a couple of days ago and am veryexcited! As soon as I mastered, I started experimenting to try outall the cool things we can do. I began by creating "Client Cards" for myself and my alternate character - just to make sure I can change myself back to the way I looked originally. That's whenI started noticing thebugs, such asnose protrusion, width and length options defaulting to zero.

Iwant to do my very best inthis profession, so since I've mastered, I've spent hoursstudying the forums and the veryhelpful sites to which the forums have directed me.

I am playing around with the nose protrusion, width and length options, but have yet to come up with some nose optionsthat I reallylike.Do youhave any suggestions on which settings to use to perform somegreat "nose jobs" on my clients?

I appreciate any help you may have to offer!

From my experience ,,beauty is in the eye of the person looking into the mirror, not the beholder and certainly not in imager,,,

You are very right, Jaela! And really - it's not how you even look on the outside, it's how you feel on the inside and how you portray this self-image to the outside world. (Uhoh... the psych degree is showing. And I thought it was just useful as a coaster. Hee hee.)

I've just come across a lot of clientswith the infamous questionImage Designers are asked a lot (and one I've asked myself): "You're the expert. What do you think would look good?"I'm interested in havingsome input from my fellow Image Designers on some noses with which their clients have been especially happy. Evenwhen the client doesn't like these choices, it would help to have something to go on (besides the defaults). However, I am really new at this. Ido need a lot of practice!

And although physical appearance shouldn't matter at allin real life, it sure is fun to be able to change your appearance in game - and thenreinvent yourself over and over again.

Thanks so much for your speedy response, Jaela.

In my experience the nose and chin have to balance each other, so it doesn't matter what either looks like but what they look like together.

Hm…one client comes to mind offhand. You know the type—asks for a hair change, wants something impossible, finally decides on something, then adds to the list. Well, turns out this guy wants a little bit of everything in the face, and I'm getting annoyed…so (and I'm somewhat ashamed to admit this) I just set cheeks, jaw, and chin to 128, telling him to remember that he wouldn't get the full picture until I was done, and to just accept the changes. He did, and seemed happy when I finished, but he looked like Pinnochio…so I threw in a quick protrusion change—no specific number on this one, I just dropped it in size until I stopped laughing at him.

Twomods I've found most people want is nose length at max and nose width at or near min. After that people vary in how they like their nose protrusion, typically somewhere between 10% and 50%

Now for a better answer to your question.

Most of the time , what I try to do is to suggest changes that enhance the original concept/image the player had in mind at creation. Usually this results in a 20-40% reduction or increase in the feature. Usually when it is the nose at issue, the protrusion is too high, the width too high and length too long. But I try to find the point where the nose becomes more attractive and still retains the original idea. If I dont do it this way, I find that I tend to make them look like me and that's not what a good imager should do.

I find most have cheeks and jaw that need to be made larger, mouth smaller, and lips usually smaller. I also find that 95% of most players start out with minimum weight, ( carbs you know ) and they almost always look better at 15% above minimum,,and just the opposite with the torso/bust feature.

Wow! Thank you very much for your replies. I am logging on to the game right now, because I can't wait totry out all of your suggestions! (Well... except maybe the "Pinocchio look" - lol Syzygy. Although this does prove the saying, "It's never wise to upset anImage Designer.")

I appreciate all of youvery much!

Most of the females I have worked on have had some of the same problems. The distance between the nose and lips is waaay to long, along with the protrusion being to little. The other problem is most characters eyes are too small to be in proportion to the rest of the face. Also keeping race considerations in mind the use of cheeks and jaws are very underused in creating asian looking characters.

The big problemI find is that no matter what you do to the face, it still looks slightly out of proportion to the neck. I have an asian character that looks good, but her neck is incredibly thin looking. It makes her look slightly "top-heavy".

Making a realistic looking female character in this game is a challenge, but when you do it right it is a great feeling.

Ugh…I know what you mean. I've got Eicia's face tweaked to the point where I'm happy with it, but I wish I could adjust her neck a bit—she's got a bit of the giraffe thing going on.

That's really nice. I wish I could articulate what it is that looks good to me like so many of the rest of us. I just change whatever doesn't look right to me. But it seems to make people happy, so I'm ok

Lol, some very interesting views out there. When it comes to humanoid females cute little button noses look the best (all settings at minimum). For differences in looks you can play with the 3 settings a litle bit but all changes should be under the 25% range if beauty iswhat you want for your char.

For humanoid males the same is not true. For a more handsome, stronger, tough, & rugged looking guy you want a broader width & a longer length to the nose (around the 75% range) but you still don't want the protruson to be too much (maybe 50-75% max).

Cute little button nose!! How funny, I find that very unattractive (from my female heterose_ual viewpoint anyway) But then I don't have a button nose so of course I'm biased I think Nicole Kidman for example has a great nose (her real nose, not the prosthetic one). She has that Roman statue nose thing going on.

Some researchers once showed a gazillion faces to subjects, asking them to rate them for beauty, and the female faces that were most highly rated were those with the most childlike features (little scary huh). High foreheads, plumpy lips, etc Guess it's a bias towards youth. Fertility and all that.
