Thread: Effect of the timer

This is not meant to be a loaded question (although I might sound sarcastic, I'm not trying to be). I really am curious...

How much has the timer affected your non-grinding image design sessions. For holo-emotes, and for stat migrations ("simple transactions"), it must seem incredibly long. But for the "can you turn my hair green" or "I want my skin to match this leotard" sessions, did the delay timer really affect the image designing session?

For me, I went to an image designer and said "I want this color hair". Despite knowing what I wanted, it still took me much more than two minutes to get a shade I wanted... Now granted, I might be more fickle or slower than other customers.

As a non-image designer, I really have no idea how these usually go. Are my image design sessions unnaturally long? Does the two minute and five minute timers for "real" image designs (rather than quick salesof holo-emotes and stat migrations which require no though) really affect the session that much?

One rodian asked to be made taller. It took maybe 12 seconds to figure out what he wanted, and another 2+ minutes to sit and wait for the timer to run out. /sigh

On the other hand, a wookiee wanted a complete overhaul. Different fur pattern, different fur color, different pattern color, different eye color. The timer ran out before we settled on exactly that he wanted.

I also had four requests for stat migrations. One of them wanted additional work, which kept me busy for a few minutes, but we still had to wait 6-7 minutes for the stat migration timer to run out. The other three didn't want any other changes, just the stat migration. Half hour total for the three of them. /sigh

In all I was in the tent 3 hours, and worked on 18 customers total over 21 ID sessions (two customers wanted additional changes after the initial changes were applied). I kept track of my XP gains...

  • 4 stat migrations at 600 xp each for 2400 xp total

  • 10 physical changes at 300 xp each for 3000 xp total

  • 7 cosmetic changes at 100 xp for 700 xp total

That's 6100 xp for 21 ID sessions for 18 customers over three hours, or 2033 xp an hour.

It is a time sink that makes the game less fun for everyone. Period. Despite what you nmight think, there are dozens of master ID on each server as it is. Now they will be the only ones since getting it now is impossible.

All it amounts to for me, as a MID, is a lot of boredom & a lot of wasted time & a LOT of angry annoyed customers who think I'm just too stupid to click a button ("no see the TIMER won't let me!" is going on a macro for me). I lost 5 or 6 customers yesterday solely from their getting bored waiting for he timer to finish on others in front of them in line. The old way, I could have easily done them all.

And god forbid I decide to change my OWN look between customers. Has to be done in downtime.
