Take one session at a time and have fun. Learn the trade and enjoy the different possibilities as you gain more boxes. Meet new friends and have fun
Did it mention, you should have fun?
In case you're a grinder in a poor disguise, read the FAQ or the other answers in here. Just find a desolate area and grind away.

Even if you're not a grinder in disguise, reading the FAQ is always a good idea.

Looking up the recent posts might help, too... I think We had pretty much the same question like 3 or 4 times over the last week alone...
But to answer your question: First you need to reach Novice ID. You can achieve that by first doing hairstylings, later (ID 2 I think) eye colorchanges. Either do em on yourself or on a willing subject (friend, guildy, whoever is so kind and patient to help out)
With Novice ID you can do stat migrations, which are the most 'efficient' way to gain xp.
Hmm... oh and you should do all that in one of the ID-Salons, since you save half of the time there.
I hope this helps you out. Have fun!
May the Force be with you all!

Make sure when IDing yourself in a tentyou to a /image characterName instead of just /image (or /im, /imageDesign, etc.). Otherwise you don't get the half-time bonus. At least, last time I checked.
If your icon is a Wookiee because you're playing a Wookiee then you have it rougher, and you're going to have to schmooze other people to sit for you for the first few boxes -- you can't change your own eyes for a little while.
