My guild was chatting today about the lack of image designers about. (we're really addicted to Holoemotes, we're always running out) We were discussing what would encourage more people to play the image design profession, and I think we came up witha a fairly unique idea. Let me know what you think and remember please dont send posts asking for the moon, the devs are just going to laugh at you. (more than they do already that is)

Our idea was to allow ID to create 'piercings' These would be temporary equipable inventory slots for jewelery. One of the fun things in Everquest was the ability to craft jewelery and I think it could have a place here. The ID sells a piercing and the player can then equip jewelery in that slot until thier next non-predesignated cloning, the idea being only the stored cloning facility knows that your ear should be pierced. There would be many ways to impliment this that would take various amounts of dev time. simple would be to allow two ear piercings regard less of race that dont show on the model. Complex would be various types of body piercings that do appear on the model. Think Lekku piercings. Or zabrak horns.
But, 'Theres no Jewelery hardly!' you say? Well thats part two. Allow ID to craft jewelry that functions as clothing does (decay and all) using clothing attachments. Still limit people to +25 max so theres no balance problems. It would add a crafting element to the profession and create a continuing demand.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and thank for your time ID, youre a great part of what makes this game unique!

Setting aside for a moment the insinuation that we're being laughed at by the Devs, you will find a lot of ID's are in this profession specifically because it doesn't require crafting things. Piercings are one of the things we've asked for in our wish list in the past, which also includes my beloved and nonexistent wookiee fur styles. Though I guess I never really thought about where the jewelry we'd make spots for was coming from.
However I don't think that piercings would encourage more people to play Image Designers. Rather, it would encourage some more people to come see Image Designers. ID is a really social profession, I've found (fitting since it's in the Entertainer department), and if people aren't interested in being social, they'll either not be interested in becoming an ID or else grind up just for their friends and themselves and never put the tag on, thus negating the point of encouraging more people to play ID's, really.
People are slowly but surely becoming Image Designers under the new system. It's a long grind now, but there are still people who enjoy it. If you want your guild to have access to an Image Designer (assuming there isn't one in your guild) find one, latch on, and schmooze him or her. We like having a good conversation while we wait the ten minutes for your stats to rearrange themselves. We like fiddling with your hair and we like it when you let us try new things.
I had one guy recently PM me because he didn't know about the change in stat migration and he was very confused. We met up, we straightened things out, he went on his way. The next day he needed it redone, so we met up again. This time, I showed him some new looks while we waited. He was so excited he practically jumped out of his toon, and ran off to go scare the ladies of his guild, saying he'd come back regularly for new looks and how cool this all was and he'd tell his guild.
Honestly, that's the sort of thing that really makes ID's like the profession.
Though piercings (and dreadlocks!) wouldn't hurt.

I got an idea. If you want there to be more Image Designers, treat them with a bit more respect.
This is not meant as an attack on the original poster - whose idea I don't particularly like, much for reasons already mentioned, but more in general.Image Designers, you all know this as much as I do, get a lot of hassle from other players, being a social profession in a sometimes not so social world. I like being a MID very much, but it's abusive players that make me wonder why I bothered sometimes - my ID blacklist is still growing.

I'm not sure why you think I'm not treating you with respect. The laughing comment was an attempt to stop the people who would ask the developers to spend thier time creating 400 new kinds of holoemotes, give image designers the ability to change race and sex, etc. I thnk our idea would help encourage people to become image designers BECAUSE it would create demand. No one wants to play an unwanted class usually.

well not entirely, his comment about respect wasn't directed at you at all, since you seem to honestly have a respectforIDs (your holoemote love is an example of this), it is directed at those who do not treat IDs with respect, IDs used to be proud to be IDs, and it used to be a truely enjoyable expierence to be an ID, but since 8.1 I have had to deal with more jerks than I have ever had to since launch. it's the people who treat us as terminals who's sole purpose in life is tomake them able towear their full set of composite armor, that are the problem. I mean there are a large number of IDs who will refuse to put their titles up anymore, or are droppign ID all together, because they don't want to deal with these people. which is why there is a lack of IDs now, not because ID isn't enjoyable or unwanted, but because now we are forced to deal with people who show absolutely no respect for us.
as for your piercing idea, I think the idea is a good one, and IDs have wanted piercings for a long time, however I think that tailors should craft the jewelry, I mean they already craft rings and necklaces, it seems only right that they would make all jewelry.

I like the original poster's ideas, but...
Why wouldn't tailors be given the piercing and jewelry making option? It seems to fit better.

Either way would work for me, cause I am an MID and Master Tailor.

How obvious do I have to state that my attack was not directed at you? Personally I don't like your idea, but I welcome you to post it here. I just thought I'd offer some advice to the player base about how to make sure that the Image Designers who are currently around don't quit the profession. We do get hassled a lot. We and docs I suppose. That said, I don't think it's an unwanted class, it's perhaps a less popular choice for a profession, but then again, is that such a bad thing?
