Thread: Wouldn't it be kinda cool to ID vendors?

I'm sure someone has thought of this...would be kind of a neat way to get a decent looking vendor without spending a lot of time creating a somewhat acceptable vendor. Or maybe I'm just too picky? Maybe add it as an option on the radial menu for the owner, like a permission then let the ID go to town with the owner getting the other window. Or is this just too crazy of an idea?

I swear I read somewhere that this idea was actually in the works to be added sometime in the future....can't think where I saw it at the moment though
Anyone else remember the thread?
And yes, it will be incredibly useful, considering how unattractive the vendors tend to be since they are randomized from all settings (age, weight, coloring, etc.) It took me like 3 hours to find 2 halfway decent looking models for my clothes the other day lol

Darkesong is right
The devs have this on their todo-list for us. I think it was the answer to our question in the last 19-question-thingy. But it will most probably have to wait till after JTL and it will not be possible to completly ID vendors, as they said. It's more like choosing from a set of Vendor-Avatars or Archtypes. Else the database would explode or spit cheese or something like that.

It's also a benefit for Merchants. So expect it whenever the Devs push forth the Vendor reworking [ie, their closing a rather exploitive side-effect of the current Merchant-system].
The way it'll work though, I believe, is you just simply will be able to select from a limited number of predefined Vendor templates instead of being able to justify a NPC as much as you could another player.
Which can sorta make sense, after all, if a Merchant didn't hire a storekeep because she didn't have the aniston hairstyle or maxed torso, they'd prolly get in a lil bit of trouble

Very cool! I started ID with my alt and boy is it a process...then with Icy(rilla) I have merchant and I thought, oh the possibilities lol...I think it would be pretty fun! And I think the avatar deal is pretty good, at least you could get themmatching hair/makeup/markings.

If that's how they are going to do it why should we be involved? Why not just let the merchants get to pick their vendors from this pre-made selection? If we aren't going to be able to ID them as we would any other player then we should not be involved in the process at all! It's not truly image design if all we are doing is helping the merchant pick out a vendor. I swear everyone at SOE needs cranial enemas...

I agree and I was curious about that as well, but the explanation I read said that something like that would take up too much server spaceI believe. When it comes right down to it , that is what seems to motivate most of SOE's choices
I mean...you remember the melons.....

Hairstyles are not just an issue of server space. They're an issue of Stoopid Amounts Of Art and Programming as well.
If you want storage space, drop those little round Naboo houses - they're only 1 lot and they hold the same as the rest of the 2-lot houses.
And, we are not the people using steel so even if we're fine with it I think our vote is relatively low in the priority scale. Personally I'm not in competitive crafting for the exact reason that I don't want to have to chase all those little resources all over the galaxy, but some people like that sort of thing.

Yes, they're all about conserving the data-space when it comes to giving us more things we can see or appreciate, like additional hairstyles or increased storage capacity for houses. But that doesn't stop them from clogging the same data-base with784 versions of Steel when a single version named "steel" would be fine with us. Their priorities are completely out of whack.

Deep but very true. I'm sure a few won't agree with us tho.

Speaking as a master ID (finally!) I have to say that I think we already get plenty extra at master level. There are points at lower levels where you don't get a single new ability to reward your effort, and it seems more appropriate to add something in at that point rather than give masters another bonus. It could even be graduated a bit so that you start with a basic choice and get additional options as you get higher.
