Thread: Getting Customers

Recently I've been fighting with a drought of customers to Image Design. I've never had too much of a problem before. My question is what ways do you get customers. I've spent plenty of time in front of spaceports and in cantinas telling people that I can do Image Design for them, and I was wondering if anyone had a better, easier way?

I like to toss in a little roleplay in instances like this.. I see potential customer and OMG they look like they got hit upside the face with a 2X4! So I wander up to them, stand just beside them and peer at them... Then I ask them if they're happy with their appearance... Lots of people just clicked Random for their starting characters and aren't aware that ID's can make them lovely. I've gotten plenty of customers this way... course you also have those that really TRIED to make themselves ugly.

One thing you could try is putting a little ad up on the bazaar. Have a tailor create a clothing/jewelry item for you and have them label it "Need an image design?" or "Need a makeover?". Then put it up for sale at the bazaar for 3000 credits. In the description put a little blurb about what skills you can do and for people to put you on their friends list and message you when they're in the mood for a hairstyling or makeover session. Also include your pricing strategy be it a set price list or tips, and asking them to peek at Pani's gorgeous site wouldn't hurt I think it's swg.atomicspacekitty.com. Good luck

Even better use the bald workaround and place the 'hair' in your inventory for sale on the bazaar.

Thinking about it....couldn't they add an Advertisment section to the Bazaar? Of course you'd need an item or items that didn't cross into another section. Just a thought.

I wish we had some sort of weekly galaxy newspaper for each city. Not only could we put in advertisements but shop owners who aren't masters in the business field (ie their shop doesn't show up on the map) could also advertise their wares

The reason that will never happen is because that totally undermines the entire Merchant class which was formed specifically for that purpose.

Merchant does very little in the way of advertising, and all depends on someone stumbling across or near your vendor. To top it off map registering and vendor barking need to be manually reset every day, and neither has a section for Image Design. I have a receptionist vendor in my salon that has read me's on her, and I put her in the clothing advertising section. The only clue in that I'm advertising Image Design is the fact that the vendor is called Kwee's Beauty Salon. There is no way to advertise on the bazaar even for a master merchant. You have to create an item with a catchy phrase, put it up for sale, and hope noone buys it, just like everybody else. I certainly hope we are given a way to advertise in town someday even if just on a local bulletin board, and that we get what looks like pieces of paper or cardboard or something to put unbuyable ads on the bazaar.

Angel, you took the words right out of my mouth. I'm totally curious as to how you can have a hairstyle in your inventory... I learn something new about this game every day!

I do a lot of things. If someone says to me "Wow. I really like the work you did," or some variation thereof, I ask them to pass my name along. Word of mouth can be very helpful. If business is really slow, I'll travel around to different cities and just offer my services to people. I've also made up a little advertisement email that I forward to potential customers (or random people I see outside the starport). And lastly I have an R2 droid named "Drakig-Image-Designer" that I keep patroling around whatever town I'm in. The longer I do this, the more referrals I get, but advertising always helps.

There is a thread going on in the artisan forum on what we'd like to see in the bazaar. It's the discussion of the week thread for this week. If you really want advertising to be in the bazaar you should hop on that thread. I know I'd check out the advertisements. I regularly look for items that list shops and such.
