I'm not an image designer and I'm not a smuggler, but I had a random idea I wanted to post. In doing Nym's quest, one of the NPCs mentioned how he needed to get an image designer to hide their identity. But seeing how a PC's name is in big letters above his/her/it's head, that's not really feasible.
My idea would be to allow an image designer to change a person's name for a temporary time. Specifically, to prevent exceptional griefing or other 'bad things', an image designer being allowed to change a smuggler's name for maybe an hour or two. The name change would be complete ('new name' shows up in /who commands, 'old name' no longer shows up as online, etc.) The condition is that the smuggler *must* be displaying his/her/it's smuggler title while the identity hiding is on, as a warning to other players.
This would give image designers something new to play with, give smugglers something new to play with, and add to the atmosphere of the game. Suddenly, a master smuggler taking your 10 million kryat weapon you wanted sliced and vanishing becomes much more plausible, and they have the potential to become much more... shifty.
I'll likely post this to the smuggler's forum as well. However, I was wondering what people in the image designer community thought of this.

Interesting idea except I think you hit the key point when you said about griefing. There are just too many ways to scam/exploit by changing someone's only concrete indentifying tag we see. Look how many people try to scam the bank tip message and that has their own name right on it.
In the ideal setting this would be neat, but too many try to exploit everything to their own gain and systems have to be designed with that in mind.
