Thread: The purpose of Image Designer...

As i sit and read the various comments regarding the state of the Image Designer profession, I have to wonder what the point of this profession is? I have always been fond of being able to change my appearence in games, but I hate relying on other people to do it. If the Image Designer is supposed to be able to custom make your image, why not give them the sole ability to change the color of armor, vehicles, furniture, and clothing? Armorsmiths and Tailors would still be able to set the color initially, but allow the image designers to change the colors afterwards. Allow Image Designer to craft decorations for houses as well.

It seems to me that the purpose of this profession is to help add a little color and flavor to the game. With this past patch, you gave ID a horrible length of time to wait while migrating stats, stupid holo emotes, and an increased amount of time needed to Master the profession. Were any of these changes supposed to attract players to the profession?

Just a few thoughts

Very thoughtful indeed. You are so right. Hmm how about adding having the ability to change armor, clothes and furniture color. Making image designers the colorful players they should be.

I really think that the timer issue was their solution to players using macros to level up to master. Unfortunately, they hurt the players who take their profession seriously in the process.

Gloria, Lowca: Wanderhome & Test Center

Yes but instead of either add a timer and leave the macro options in game, they did so much more. Not only did they make it impossible to use macro's at all, on top of that they also added a timer to further delay progression.

When I started playing in Juli, and made my first master ID, just using the interface was slow enough. It took me a while before I mastered it, I think I reached Master Dancer before I hit Master ID. Simply using the interface exclusively seemed an enough of a timesink. Now I feel that both client and image designer are being penalized with an extra timer. Soon it will be only the non masters, for not being a master.

Instead of adding a timer, why not increase the xp needed to level and just remove the timers? All in all there isn't a huge amount ofxp necessary to gainMaster ID in total (tho I have no intention of making it sound less valuable, but 40k xp for the top box isn't all that much really). I have no problem with working hard for this profession, but being hit with a timer every session really becomes dull and boring. It quicly reminded me of Earth and Beyond, where you had to stare at your screen for 10/15 minutes traveling from point A to point B through the galaxy. (E&B is no more). important lesson, people HATE waiting. Its even worse when its absolutely not necessary.

I wouldn't even mind going through double the xp it takes now if they just would remove that damn timer. enough already.

While I agree with many points I think there needs to be some type of timer. The timer puts a hard limit on experience, even if someone uses a 3rd party macroer to do the clicking.

I will also say this: those who are striving for MID now in order to keep the profession will have all my help, even hours of clickying for them.

(And what was so bad about somerled-fenris runs? only a half hour roundtrip or so weee!) One thing those did was promote chatting, which is what SOE is trying for here, the feel of community that was lost when holocrons were introduced.

Youre ideas sound like good ones, and they have been brought up several times before by several different people.

The problem is, most of us just like the base concept of what an image designer should be, someone that makes with the pretty. Even before this revamp (and the stat migration thin) I could stay very busy just doing standard image designs.

My idea of fun isnt changing the color of armor, painting a vehicle, or changing the color of a couch. I like to sit down with a customer and make their character look better or worse depending on what theyre asking for.
