Thread: Tent Vs. Building

What do we really want? I know that ever since the static ID tend went out to the servers we have all been asking for them to become player city / Master ID placable. But is that what we really want? I'm not sure I do to be quite honest.

What brought this to mind was the fact that I moved from Talus to Naboo yesterday. Many long round trip journeys from the player city, to moena, to Kor Vella, to the Imperial Outpost, and reverse to the new home. Expensive and tiring to say the least. Was very quick to pick everything up in the old house, and very time consuming to replace it all. On the plus side, it did allow me the opportunity that I might not have taken otherwise to redecorate just a little.

Anyways, I digress but it was the process that brought this to my mind: I want a building. Square or round walls (preferably square), with a door I can lock if I want. The tents give an air of nomadmanship (is that a word?). They give a transitory feeling; they lack permenance. The Dancer/Musician/Chef Cantina says "Hey, I'm a part of this community and I'm going to be here for a good long time. The same can be said about the Doctor's medical center. A tent, though, says (at least to me) I'm here while the money's to be made, then I'm leaving. And, (and nothing against the merchant classes) they are too merchanty for me. I'm not a merchant.

Don't get me wrong, if a tent is all we are offered, I will grudgingly take it, I might even decorate it some, but I'll hide it behind my house that I have decorated to be my office, in my player city and only use it if needed for stat work.

Thoughts and or comments?

If they give us the ability to place an ID structure, I don't mind if it's a tent... as long as I can decorate it however I want. I'd like to be able to choose the placement of the terminal(s) and/or choose how many to have.

Maybe...all we would need is the terminal. If THAT were craftable, we could just add it to our existing salons/places of business. Is it really the tent that gives the perks, or the terminal? I know many of us have spent much time decorating and personally I would hate to have to do it over again. But I'd gladly re-arrange a little bit to fit in a terminal.

Just my 2 credits.

There's no hiding the fact that our tents are altered Merchant Tents. There simply weren't enough art resources available to make a from scratch building. Nevertheless I was really pleased with how they turned out and have heard mostly (overwhelmingly so) positive comments about the exterior look. I do sympathize with the thought that they have that non-permanent look but the tents are what will be made ID placeable at some point (crosses fingers).

Initially the plan was for an ID and customer to each have to pair up at a terminal, but after seeing all the posts from ID"s wishing for more socializing space and more decor than could fit in the tent with four terminals intact, our dev decided to make it unnecessary to use the actual terminals. Instead we just have to be near a terminal and in the tent. What we'll see in Publish 9 (if our dev is able to decorate them by then) is just the one terminalby the door. That also means that when/if the tents become player city placeable we'll have enough room in there to put some tables and chairs, or a living room, or salon set up or whatever I've seen people do some pretty amazing things with the tiny little merchant tents.

As for wanting to lock the door, do keep in mind that all player city buildings are usable by anyone. Just like the player city cantinas we all used have an owner, but no front door, and probably 90% of the people who use it don't know who that owner is.

The door locking coment was more a combination of metaphore than anything else. The only time I have locked the door of my office was to decorate which has been exactly twice now. Initial placement the most recent (and only so far) move.

I think what was concerning me most is the physchological impression that the tent tends to impart upon the veiwer. I shall, as I always try though, keep an open mind about it.

I would rather have a craftable ID terminal than a tent, as i'm sure most ID's would. The tents are nice and groovy but if it's going to consume one of my valuable lot spaces then, well, gimme a terminal so i can place that in my house

Iwas thinkingthe same thingyesterday, & thought if we're going to have player city tents they would probably not be as big as the NPC city ones & be more like the current merchant tents,& that would be fine with me...But then, like you, I had a better idea...

What if instead of having to have the whole tent, we had the option of having the ID terminal crafted by an architect or merchant so that we could either place them in our home salons or in a merchant tent ???

This would eliminate a lot of unnecessary work by the devs & make us happy at the same time. Tomake the terminals items that can be placed in player owned structures would be very easy & would solve the issuewith ID's who want tousea house as a salon. And instead of trying to come up with a tent decoration schemethat will satisfy us all, they can simply give us an empty merchant tent & let us decorate it ourselves.

See, we are a smart bunch! The devs need to listen to us more often.
