Firstly, let me apologise for being a hologrinder. I want to unlock my Jedi character, its not that I don't like the ID profession - I'mgetting tiredof mastering so many professions and would like to unlock asap. (I'm sure this feeling is mirrored by many other players ) So please refrain from replying to my post if you have a problem with yet another hologrinder muscling in on your profession..

I started to grind ID way back in January. Foolishly, I dropped it about halfway through, because a friend needed to level a combat profession and I thought it'd be fun to level combat together. So, I took smuggler instead and had great fun levelling the pistol XP needed with my pal.

Had I known there would be a revamp of the ID profession, I wouldn't have taken the approach at the time of "oh, I can come backand grind IDanother time"

So now, here I am at "another time" ready to grind ID, and bam... devs stick a nice fat timer on each click.

Now I have no problem with the rules, if that's how it's going to be then I'll just have to suck it up and deal with it. Trouble is, now I don't know how long this is going to take me, so I figured i'd post here and ask some of you experienced ID'ers for some advice. I figure at least there will be less strain on my character's mind pool with a long timer inbetween each click.

Bear in mind I need to take Novice Entertainer yet, so I'll be starting from the very bottom of the ladder. There's no one that can help me grind ID, so I guess I'm also looking at doing this solo.

Anyone care to give me a rough estimate of how long this will take with the new interface and timer change? A week? 2 weeks? (yes I will be doing this AFK, and yes I will be using a macro.. I know the commands have been disabled, buta little birdie told methere might beways around that.....)

Any info is greatly appreciated, as I'm finding it hard to estimate the timeframe here due to conflicting reports.

Thanks in advance. TC

All the /commands have been removed, so there is no macro. You have to use the interface and you have to click everything. So, I've heard estimates of 30 hrs, I've heard estimates of 60 hrs. Regardless, it's LONG!

At this point I'd recommend mastering something else until the dev's adjust the xp gain for ID if you're just doing it for Jedi.

Get some coffee dear, it takes 37 hours of doing nothing but ID...no roleplay, no chitchat/side missions, ID... What server are you on? I am on Wanderhome and could help you on Lok.

Assuming optimal conditions (in a tent with a willing victim, losing no time between sessions) it would take:

Novice Entertainer to Image Design II: 6000XP at 100XP per minute, or one hour. (any cosmetic change)

Image Design III to Master Image Designer: 435000XP at 300XP per two and a half minutes, or two days, twelve hourshours, twentyfive minutes. (eye color or any other body change)

In total it would take 61 hours 25 minutes to master Image Designer from Novice Entertainer, not including any "slack" time. Good luck.

Thanks Syzgy,

I realized I calculated teh entire profession at 300xp instead of 100xp at the lower level trees =P 60-70 hours seems about right now.

I would also recommend waiting a week or two to see if the exp is tweaked. I honestly have no information either way but the devs did say they would be evaluating it in the days after the minipublish went live for possible tweaking. Also note that no mind is needed now.

Kwee, I don't feel that is quite right. ID'ing myself as an entertainer, I get hit with a nominal 50-60 mind when changing my own eye color. However, in the three minutesit takes for the timer to count down again I can do the next click at full mindwithout taking any kind of action to replentish it. Buffs are un-nessessary. Do I feel the wait is a bad thing? Yes and no. I understnad why the progression must be slowed down, and I do not question it. The problem is that theway they implimented it is very inconveniancing.

A proposal: Instead of enforcing that the ID window be open for whatever length of time it takes to do the next change, can it be altered so that the ID window cannot be opened for the length of time it took to do the last change? II know that you can change to look-at mode to remove the ID window from the screen temporarily, but I use mouse mode a lot and the ID window is very hard to see around and through.

This doesn't address the problem of non-master IDs being forced to ID themselves ( unless they have a very long-term willing and able partner ) but it will remove a lot of the inconvienance.

Ideas take time to work themselves into useable forms...

What I posted above and in the thread titled "Give them what they want" have kept me thinking about the profession.

My biggest blockage as an aspiring ID is beiong unable to service the customer. Telling a tent full of people "Hey, if all you need is hair or eye done, I can do that here." isn't enough because I don't have the hairstyle or the full pallet range that they seek. How about this:

Open it up. Everyone can change anything while they are partied with a Master ID party leader. These changes take place very quickly, so the customer that has engagemnts elsewhere can be on thier way. The customers that wish to stick around a while can do so without a large interface screen. And the ID can see around them.

There are flaws with this, I know. I hear you saying now: "What is to stop someone from just picking up novice entertainer and IDing themselves, eliminating the dedicated artists from the trade?" That is where the Masters come in. Without a Master ID as your party leader you would be limited to the options you have now. At novice ID that would be makeup color and basic hair styles. The Masters can help regulate the "exploiters" to this by just refusing to party with them. A popup box can also be added for the masters along the lines of "Would you like to assist Soandso with an image design on Suchandsuch." Clicking yes lets the ID go through. Clicking no prevents the obvious abuse.

To sum up:

Give less experienced IDs a chance to get customers.

Give IDs ( both Master and less than )a real reason to work together - to better service the customer.

Don't remove the /timer/. Remove the /clock/. This may seem confusing, but it will make a huge difference.

Discuss?

Thanks so much everyone for the replies! Nouva, thank you but I'm not on your server.. very kind of you to offer though.

It doesn't appear to be as bad as I was thinking, I've done a lot worse in the game and grinding 120+ hours doesn't seem all that bad (also taking into account the lack of buffs needed). It took me 3 months to Master Pistoleer, but that was before the joy of grinding was in the game.

Thanks for all your advice, I'll be starting ID tonight and if there's a change in timer during my grind then great, if not.. well I'll just suck it up and try to enjoy it as best I can.

Hehe, hope you have fun with it.

At least you have an excuse [for the first couple bits each skill box] to explore what you've learned now .

Ah that's good to know, I was told by the devs we wouldn't be using mind along with the timers just a few days ago, so maybe mind usage now is a bug. I'll ask.
