protest "organization" is not welcome on our forums and is strictly against the forum rules.

Now, usually I'm all for GarVa and Jeassa—they do great work. But I'm a little perturbed by this one. I just reread the forum guidelines, and at no point in that document does it say anything about organizing protests. Warryyr's post was positive, and called for a peaceful gathering to bring attention to our plight—there was no flaming of SOE or of any individuals, it was not illegal, it was not spam, it was friendly and corteous, and it was relevant. So, in what way did it break the rules of forum posting?

I don't expect a response to this, given the last point of the guidelines—there is no chance for appeal. Neither is there need for SOE or its employees to show cause for such actions. However, I think the ball was dropped on this one, and I'm curious as to why.

SOE Forums Usage Guidelines: The Seven Daily Rules

SOE provides these Forums as a service to its subscribers, to provide a friendly, positive family-oriented environment, where members can help each other and exchange ideas, tips, information, and techniques related to the game. Like any community, these Forums are most valuable when everyone obeys certain basic guidelines and rules for online behavior. These guidelines and rules are presented here so that you know what is expected of you and what you can expect from others. Please help keep the SOE Forums a clean and friendly community. And, above all else, have fun!

Rule 1: We are all Here to Help The purpose of these forums is to enable the members of the community to help each other in a constructive and positive atmosphere. If you are new to the forums and are unsure about anything, just ask! If you are an old hand and see new participants joining the forums, please welcome them and feel free to help them find their way!

This doesn't really say anything rule related, but the locked post was in the interests of the Entertainers and we done in a positive manner.

Rule 2: Be Friendly and Courteous Everyone wants to have a positive experience while on the Forums - please make sure that you contribute to it. Please do not post anything harassing, threatening, abusive, lewd, or inflammatory. Flaming people, products, or organizations is never acceptable. Neither is trolling. Instead, be friendly, helpful, and supportive.

No infractions here. Heck, eight out of ten of my posts are less civil.

Rule 3: Be Relevant Please stay on topic. These Forums are provided to enable members to help each other in sharing their passion for the game. Please refrain from discussing personal matters, abusing any company or product, or, in general, from posting in a manner unrelated to the direct purposes expected in the Forums.

Again, not a problem. We Entertainer classes have an issue. This pertains to all of us.

Rule 4: Be Legal Please do not post anything unlawful, libelous, defamatory, or that infringes upon any intellectual property rights. Do not conduct any activity that may be illegal, or harmful in any way, to people, to software or hardware, such as hacking, flooding scripts viruses or Trojan horses.

I don't see any issues here...

Rule 5: No Spam Please do not use the forums in any way to promote third party services, products, websites, or organizations.

Again, no infractions...

Rule 6: Enforcement Your participation in the Forums is subject to modification, deletion, access limitation or ban, by moderators, at their sole discretion, without notice or appeal. While SOE does not generally monitor content, it retains the right, at its sole discretion, to edit content and limit users' access that it considers inappropriate. SOE is not responsible for any failure or delay in taking such actions

Now here, it basicly says "I will modify your posts if I feel like it." *shrug*

Rule 7 Limitation of Liability You understand that members like you contribute the content of these Forums, that SOE does not control and is not responsible for it, and that SOE does not in any way guarantee the truthfulness, accuracy, legality or completeness of any such content. You expressly agree that you bear all the risks associated with such content and that SOE is not liable in any way for such content, for its errors and omissions, and for any losses and damage incurred as a result of accessing or using such content. These Usage Guidelines are in addition to, and not in lieu of the rights and obligations contained in SOE's Community Policies, SOE's Terms of Service, and the SOE Privacy Policy. SOE reserves the right to change its policies at any time.

By registering, and by posting in this community, you agree to these Usage Guidelines.

And then the legal stuff....

Can a mod please explain to me exactly where the problem with this was?

Make the Devs stop ignoring the Entertainers. We will not be ignored.

So, it's come to this - it's time for us to take some action, form up, unify, and show the Devs and anyone else who will listen that we're tired of our style of gameplay being ignored, and threatened to extinction.

What started this: TH's answer to the Musician question in the 6/10/04 19 questions post:

Musician What force skills will you be implementing for specific advantage to the musician profession? Will they be implemented with the Jedi system, or how soon after? If the answer is "NONE" may we provide a list of suggested skills that would be specific to this profession for developer consideration? The answer is “none”. Please work with NewJedi to develop a reasonable list and I will work with the team to see what is possible and what is not.

It is unacceptable that an elite profession should be completely ignored in the upcoming Jedi revamp. I would imagine that Dancers, Master Entertainers, and Image Designers are in the same boat - no Force Sensitive abilities. I'm not sure if we were forgotten about, or just ignored, but there should have been plans for something to be added content-wise for Entertainers, with the Jedi Revamp. Some examples for Force skills for entertainers, limited to buff improvements:

1) Increased Buff Duration (to match the length of Doc buffs).

2) Increased Buff Strength.

3) Decreased time to apply a buff.

These suggestions have been kicking around for a long time, but as no one from the Dev team seems to know the Entertainer professions' forums exist, we may as well not have discussed them at all. I would imagine that anyone with a limited amount of experience in our professions could have concocted these ideas, if only they spent a minimal amount of time thinking about it. Our correspondents have done a wonderful job at trying to communicate to the Devs that we need attention, to no avail.

Protest details:

Time: starting at 6PM EST on Tuesday June 15th until whenever - and every Tuesday thereafter. Heck, do this whenever you feel like - every day, if you want.

Location: Theed Starport, every server, away from all the merchant barkers.

Details:

Folks should form one big group, or several small groups. Dancers should dance Basic so anyone can join, and Musicians should play Starwars1 (this way any Novice, or folks who want to pick up Novice to join us, can play/dance with us too). Use lighting effects, put on a show. Everyone is invited - Dancer, Musician, Image Designers, Entertainers. Contribute by playing any instrument, dancing any dance, or simply just listen and watch, and chat it up. Have fun!

Doctors and Medics will be needed for healing - tell your healing friends this will be a good chance to get some serious xp from lots of flourishing entertainers! Quickness buffs to let us play longer and flourish like mad would be wonderful, too.

Group leaders should run a /bandflourish macro with decent variety, to keep things lively. All group members should *NOT* flourish or run macros - just do a "/bandflo on" and let the group leader (elect one for Musicians and one for Dancers in your group) take charge of your performance. We want to look professional and organized, and really put on a big show!

Bandflo's reduce xp, but folks, this is not for xp, this is not for heals or tips, this is for the future of our professions.

If you run out of action, just stop playing and wait to heal up. Group leaders, if low on action, should set "/bandflo off" and regain some of their action, to avoid stopping the group. Let the rest of the group keep going, but stop your flourishing for the good of the group's performance.

Keep comments constructive, to the likes of "We're not AFK, and we're not NPC's, we need attention from the Devs right now" or "Our professions need attention, too - stop ignoring the entertainers!" "Real Entertainers - we're not just for buffing, we actually *play* this game!" "I want Force Sensitive skills to buff faster, longer, and better!" Keep things as positive as possible, I know we've been frustrated for awhile, but too much negativity might turn off folks who could be willing to take our side in the matter.

Be prepared for negative comments towards us. "Get back in the cantina" and such. Most people totally agree with our problems with our professions, and we have their complete support, but some could care less. Do not satisfy them with a response. Jot their name down in your /notepad and decide later whether you want to provide your services to them. Who knows, maybe we'll get a lot more support than we think. Maybe people will listen and watch, and be interested in our cause. I'm sure many will.

Send emails to Warryyr on Starsider with any comments or questions.

Let's get the Entertainer professions in this game back into shape. Our style of gameplay is in serious trouble, and we're treated like we don't exist. We are not a priority to the Devs, and they haven't expressed anything to suggest otherwise. We have had very little additions in regards to content, improvements, and bug fixes(though the Image Designers got a little love recently, even they have some serious issues with their revamp that have yet to be resolved). We need to fit into this game, we need to have a purpose, we need things fixed that have been malfunctioning for a long time (like Entertainer buffs).

Let's stop getting ignored, and get some real attention/content/respect from the Devs -that we can take an active part in developing. Let's inform the playerbase that we're not all AFK'ers. That we care about our style of gameplay. We may not be able to buff or heal outside of a cantina (throw that in as a comment in Spatial maybe - "i'd love to buff and heal you, but buffing outside of the cantina is just one of many suggestions to improve our professions that have been completely ignored by the Devs"). But, we can still perform and put on a great show!

These protests should continue every Tuesday (or whenever the mood strikes you all) until some resemblance of attention to the problems with our professions is given. We need some solid word, not placating comments, that action will be taken by the Devs to improve/fix/enhance our professions.

Thank you for your time, now get out to Theed Starport on Tuesday nights, and let's start the Jam for an Entertainer Revamp!

SOE, think about every non-Jedi "cancelled" signature you've seen, and remember that there will be more as you forget the communities that makes this game's heart and soul. Entertainers, Crafters, Hybrids, Non-Jedi Combats, and Smugglers. When you are closing shop on SWG, remember that you ignored the REAL community to cater to an alpha class that assured this game would never be "balanced."

I have seen far worse threads, and submitted far worse threads that survived the SOE axe for a while.

I remember a thread on another forum I think that said something like " for SOE a problem ignored, and better still a problem deleted is a problem that no longer exists.."
