So, lately I keep thinking about giving up IDing. I've been working on Teras Kasi, and was considering moving on to other things because I never ID any more.

So. I was in the tent making an effort to see if I still liked ID whena Wookiee entertainer came in. He was that sort of rosy-color that's one shade below the brightest. Solid rosy. He gaped at my loverly purple and desired it for himself.

He asked to see new fur patterns. I started going throughthem and eventually he just said, "There's too many, you pick something."

I got to pick:

Fur, coloration, eye size, eye shape, eye color, chin, jaw, head, brow, mouth, nose length, and nose protrusion! He was a squinty-droopy chinless ball of fuzz when he came to me and I sent him away a good lookin' Wookiee!

Of course, he made the mistake of asking how short he could be. I left him that short, and since I am the tallest female Wookiee possible, he immediately got a complex. I adjusted his height five times ("just a bar taller?"), sat on the floor so when the adjustment took place he would be taller than I, and even when I measured him against a human, pointing out that this was the general size of the population he'd encounter, he still wanted to be "just a little bit taller".

When he decided he was happy with his look, I told him he was as tall as he'd come in to me. His response was something like, "Well, I'm going to go pick up the remaining shreds of my dignity then...." and he wandered off.

But what fun a real makeover is. I'd forgotten. Guess I'm staying ID for a while longer.

I love when they actually let you have some creative say. Most of the timeI feel like a translator between the customer and the ID options. I had a guy come in the other day who basically told me to "make him look better" and told me I could change whatever I wanted other than the face and eyes. At first I was skeptical, because usually when people tell you to pick something for them, you do it, and they don't like it and then try to tell you what they really want; they just tell you to pick somethingbecause they are indecisive. So I probably sounded like a moron to this guy hehe, cause I kept making sure he approved of things, double checked with any thing I changed before I did it to make sure he was okay with it being changed, but I got to make him look COMPLETELY different and he tipped me incredibly well. It was amazing!

I've been trying to spend more time in the ID tent lately, as I got discouraged for a while. It's rare situations where the customer is amazingly nice and the makeover is fun and everyone is enjoying themselves which makes ID well worth it. Its too bad those situations aren't more common.

Heh... not too long ago, Ssumidra (my MID on Bria) had her MID title up. Aside from all the stat migrations I got pulled into doing, there was this one guy in the tent who needed ID help desperately. He had bought a used account and his character was short, fat and ugly with pasty white skin.

"Ssumidra," he begged me, "you've GOT to help me. Everyone's making fun of me."

When I was done with him, he was a lean, mean black guy with yellow eyes andthe hairstyle that runs down the center of the skull but lies too flat to be called a mohawk. He had asked to be minimum weight, but that made him look too top heavy as he had max torso and max muscle, so I talked him into just enough weight to ballance it out. No one will be making fun of him again.

This kind of thing is why I love ID in spite of all the bugs, stat migrations and other hassles.

*giggles* Yep, those are the stories I love so much I will never forget the day when this Wookiee entered and asked to get dreadlocks... oh we all were so disappointed, that we couldn't do that

Or the day when this Rebel Swat team killed the overt imp that I was just working on (a stat migration)... when he came back rumbling and cursing he asked me to make him look really really mean... hehe... I did him this favor for free... Zabracks can REALLY look sooo mean

The problem is your situation is so far and few between. I loved doing things like that for people... but only one in fifty people seemed to want work like that. That is what led to my dropping the profession ultimatly.

*falls over giggling* That's awesome!

I logged in long enough to get my some Wookiee armor yesterday, and to get ambushed by someone who was in a panic about needing ID. It was very quick, all things considered - she knew just what she wanted. But it was because her boyfriend was flying in soon. After she was done talking to me, she forwarded me the love letter sent by her boyfriend, got all gushy for a moment, then ran outside to try to find out where she could get rings in a hurry.
