Thread: Abnormal Hair Color?

A lot of you are complaining that you can't change someones hair to abnormal colors (i.e. blue, red, leopard-print for human). While I am all for free expression, I absolutely agree with the devs for not giving this option.

70% of the people who's hair I've worked on, wanted me to make it some outlandish color. Now, if 70% of the human's running around had flamingo pink or emergency cone-orange hair, what would the world look like? Free expression goes out the window and you're playing in some crazy cartoon universe with rainbow-colored teletubbies running around. Last time I saw a Star Wars movie, MOST human had normal hair color.

Just saying give it a ponder, before you petition for this.

Yea, now that you put it that way, I agree with you. But it would be neat to see a few (like, maybe 10%) of people with unnatural hair colors. But there's no way to limit that unless you get all Image Designers to agree or something.
One color I would really like to have is a more white white. The lightest grey can on some hairstyles look very white, but on others it looks rather dark. A color a bit whiter than that grey would be nice.

There's a wonderful way to limit it.... Charge lots of money. Seriously, should we get this ability, don't expect it to go for less than 25K on Lowca should it be permenent.

Limit the change to Master ID or at the very least Hair4

Make outlandish dye jobs require a craftable component, schematics gained high up in the image design profession.

Make the changes fade, a few days if allowed lower on the tree, a week or two for masters.

As for things like highlights, there's allready a wonderful system in place with wookie patterns. Could this not be adapted for use on normal hair styles?

I'm completly for it because some people will want abnormal hair color and some people will not want it. A great game is about diversity of options...Image designer should be able to do a lot of things and things different than the normal creation system to make that skill interesting, simple as that...

People want it, sadly, for attention & to try to be special. But they WON'T be. It'll just become the new default. No matter how much it costs. A rare component is the only way to go.

Rare component would be great, as would the fading idea. (That would also keep customers coming back every week or so for a touch up.)
And yes, I would charge LOTS of credits for it.

It does seem kind of strange though. A society that is advanced enough to develop hyperspace travel, laser blasters, lightsabers, and all these other crazy technologies has yet to develop hair dye. They do have dye for lips and eye shadow, but weren't smart enough to take it to the next level and try hair? Just a thought.

Pffft... it will be rare if you all charge 50-100k. Its what I will be doing to ensure it stays rare and lines y pockets with credits.

I would also want to keep it to a minumum, which is why I agree with what Soonmot said.

I would charge very steeply for it.

Yes, we definitely need the crazy colors and to have to make hairdye to make them. Out of things that are rare/come from afar. (Kind oflike medicshave to have up the tree) And if tattoos come in we should most DEFINITELY have to make tattoo ink to do it. Everybody accuses us of not having to use any materials (nobody counts the bazillion muon gold i went thru to go ahead and get master to attend to some clients) and discounts what we do saying it should be really cheap, even free. This way it would look at least a LITTLE more valid to charge an arm and a leg to do it and keep it rare. And we aren't that hurt because we can bribe the explorer and rare resource dealer crowds to get us the stuff with the coloring/tattooing itself. And we can prey on the lazy image designers by selling them tubs of dye and ink and have a whole new market in itself. Extremely rare or random outcomes when making the hairdye would be cool as well" COOL! i just made bright purple" would be quite an accomplishment after days of trying to get that *perfect* color. and i'd imagine that rediculously bright and nearly unique color would make you 100kish as well. (could preview the color when customizing the schematic and name it)

Oh man i didn't mean to go that in depth. Oh well what do you guys think?

I agree that it should be .....Difficult.

HOWEVER,I find it Rediculous that it is IMPOSSIBLE.--------look- I play this game (and Neverwinter nights, etc.) with a friend of mine and one of our favorite things to do is play what we call

"ME-CHARACTERS"

meaning we make characters that look as exactly like we do in real life(or as close as we can get)

we then progress them up the apropriate skill trees,etc.-it's even MORE like "actually being there"

the problem is, when I went to make a "me character" for my WIFE I could'nt capture her look because in the 6 years I've known her she has had fire-engine-red hair and that was simply not an option.Big let-down.(that was my one chance to get her to play)

I don't think,as Ninja-what'shisname said, that we people are sadly trying to stand out to be unique or whatever,we just want to......yeesh....be OURSELVES,and it's not as rare a thing as some people make it out to be....I think it depends on where you live(here in Seattle(capitol hill neighborhood) about 1 in 10 people have freaky hair colors, thereby making it less like "ooh, look at me!" and more like,"what T-shirt should I wear today"

I'm losing my point

OF course make available....and soon

and of course make it either REALLY spendy,or only do-able by HIGH level ID's

OR make the HAIR DYE a hard-to-craft item, only posible by artisans, charge a LOT for the DYE and then make it only useable by MASTER ID's------I personally think the latter choice makes sense.

I love Solojawa's suggestion about having crafters make the dye. I would give it to master artisans to give them something unique other than nemoidian bird cages you can't even put birds in I don't think 70% of people are going to want outlandish hair colors if they are implemented. People are very picky about their hair color, and many want a natural look, or as one poster said, go for their real life hair color. I've had very few people ask me about unnatural hair colors and I do a LOT of hair. When I ask most of them if they'd like a hair color change they jump back at least ten feet in horror yelling "Don't touch my hair!!"

Feh, what do artisians know about dye? We're hairdressers, Image Designers! I know i don't want some grease monkey messing with dye I plan on putting in a client's hair! Or my own! If our dyes come out with random results than the materials needed to craft should be very common. If we get to pick specific colors, then, yes, these materials should be rare, but not impossible to find. Also, just like stimpacks, Image designers should be able to get multiple uses out of a dye container. Let's keep our supplies inside the line, we allready depend on the other professions for our income and the lion's share of our experience.

Anyone who wants to do crazy colors and styles needs to sit in front of the Britain bank in UO for an hour and look at what walks past. Guys in neon yellow skirts with fluorescent pink beards etc. UO did unlimited colors and it's a horror of bad taste. I think that's probably got a great deal to do with why we don't have some clothing and hair options in this game.
