Thread: Why I tend to shy away from ID
Ok...I am not an ID. I thought this class sounded great when I read about it. The character custimazation in SWG is just great! Maybe even IDs can add things not availabel at creation? I think they can now, hopefully they will get more as time progresses.
HOWEVER
I have had a run in with a couple of IDs whose idea of being an image designer is changing my appeararace then running off.....now, at first I found this very ammusing....A drive by bunning (Leia's hairstyye). But after a couple of times (different IDs who are not master IDs by the way) this profession appears to be very griefer friendly.
Maybe there is some way to view the change without accepting it? This would be my fault if there is. So please tell me if I am wrong.
And another things is trying to describe what I want. A simply hairstyle can take a very long time. So i looked at warcry at the new hairstyles. I just say "gimme number 11 for the human female" yet they have not visited the site and have no idea what I am talking about. So we go on an on and on. I finally just paid 5k to have the person return me to my normal state (pocket change)
I cannot begin to imagine if someone wants a complete body overhaul. I wish there was some way to let the customer do the IDing...but I guess that would sort of take a lot out of the class.
I dunno...I am a very polite and patient individual, and I tip pay extremely well. It is just that my run ins with IDs have ALL been pretty miserable experiences.
/sigh

Before any change is inflicted on your character you are given a little dialogue box to accept or reject the change. If you notice your character now has the new look, but it is not final until you accept it. You can even toggle from the new and the old with this same confirmation box. If you don't like a change, don't be afraid to click the refuse button. No one can change your design without your consent.
I know describing what you want can be difficult, but unfortunately you're right. If you could just see the styles yourself then there wouldn't be much to the class. I'm sorry that you haven't had very good experiences, though, as I know that I and probably many others work really hard to be patient and efficient. Generally speaking I feel that I have a knack for finding the right hairstyle but there are times where I just can't seem to get it right.
I hope you have better luck in the future though!

You must be grouped with the person in order for them to be able to Image Design. There is also a window that pops up which gives you a choice to accept or refuse the change. If you let it time out, it will always refuse the change as well.

I agree that the interface needs reworking, but not to the extent where it would only requirethe designerto open a menu for the client and allow them to rework themselves. That's like allowing someone to step into your salon, pick up all your tools and use it while you stand there and watch them do a makeover themselves. The interaction between the designer and client should be enjoyable, maybe even roleplayed whenever possible.

I have discovered there is a bug with the manual text-entry image design commands, in that it can be used by non-image-design players. I hestiate to even say so on these boards, lest it create more opportunity for abuse or devalue the image design profession. If you know the command already, good. If not, it's already been /bugged and probably hotfixed by this time, and you don't need to know it anyway.
However, know a few things about it:
As a novice ID with half the boxes filled in, I cannot accept or confirm any style which I am not qualified to do. That is, I can't adjust torso or height permanently. I see the preview, but 'accept' does nothing. I found last night that I can't even accept those changes which I'm qualified to make (tattoo color, etc).
It can by used by somebody who isn't grouped with you. I found a friend and asked him to try it on me, and I got the customary window.
There is a bright side. You still get the accept-refuse dialog box, with the View With Change and View Without Change buttons, so you are not forced into any particular choice. Myself? I picked 'refuse.' I don't know if it would have gone through.
I'm not sure what happened to the OP, but was the perpetrator wearing an ID title, or just Novice Entertainer? Or could you tell? Did you or didn't you get an accept dialog?
I guess I should go to every other profession board and post why I'm not taking up their profession
