I've posted a new article on swgtailor regarding some gamers' criticism of SWG for offering nontraditional professions, such as tailoring and entertaining. Although the excerpts that I'm criticizing don't strictly mention ID, I think it's relevant. Have a looky if you want.

nice article - and so true about aesthetics over function.

Reminds me of this Penny-Arcade

I be the person who wrote the Computer Gaming World article is mad because they had to grind so many professions and they still haven't opened their FSCS.

It always amazes me when people say things like that—that dancing is just pressing F12, or IDing is just clicking a mouse. Funny, but last time I was in combat with Eicia the only thing I did was press F2 (pistol whip), press F3 (stoppingshot), and click the mouse (loot) … does that mean combat is a waste of $15 a month, too?

Very well written article and to the point.

The reason I wanted to get SWG long before it was even released, was for the Image Design Profession. I've found that I enjoy the "useless" professions to be the most fun in MMO's, and I thrive in them. (What fun it was to go to Destard and Herd Dragons back in UO!)

I've dabbled in every combat profession in SWG, and I find ranged combat the most tedious and boring form of combat in any game that I've ever played. The most fun I had with combat is when I was a Master Brawler and would use warcry and intimidate to help keep group members in good standing. As previously stated, it's mostly hitting a few keys tied to a small handful of specials.

What keeps me logging in is the practioners of those "useless" professions. Every night in the cantina is different, and as an ID I meet a myriad of people and hear a plethora of tales. It really puts the "roleplay" in RPG.

I will give KOTOR one thing though, I thoroughly enjoyed it because of the inter-character stories. Rarely see so much attention being put to that anymore these days.
