Thread: Tent revamps when and what is going to be done?

I find that... disapointing.

If art resources are an issue, they could at least copy an existing building and reskin it like they did to the ah... tents.

Here's what I know... The tents are always going to be tents. The tents are in the process of being decorated, cross your fingers for Publish 9 I haven't heard any eta on them becoming player city placeable.

Yea great Kwee. How bout waving your pom-poms and telling the devs instead of focusing on starter-city frakin furniture art, how about a working player-city tent and I'll decorate the frakin thing myself...

Oh, and fix the entertainer profession....

That is rude and uncalled for, Kweewas just stating the facts. (That she has no control of) PlusI ask the question. Plus decorating a tent is a simple art team thing that can be changed, but it adding coding for PC tents is not simple, nor is it changable. once it is in it will stay in so they need to take they time and do it right the first time.

Voor,

You of all people, a veteren should be fighting for starter city tents. I don't know how it is on your server, but many on my server, save a handful of over-nighters do not use the tents.

And by the way...

The code is already there... its cut, paste, implement. It can easily be done in a hotfix if they wanted to. you really think they re-wrote code for the new UI? Or the expanded color palette? I believe you are smarter than that. You all may be satisfied with the scraps the devs throw on the floor for you, but I would rather eat a full steak at the table, thank you...

The code is there for player placables, yes. For cantinas, theaters and med centers. There isn't code that combines player-placeables AND the new Image Design Terminal effect. That combination would need to be done, and tested. And a crafting schematic would need to be made and assigned to some level of Architect. And they'd need to grab the current ID tent or perhaps vendor tent artand code and alter it to allow player management such as in houses and vendor tents and to work with the ID Terminal effect. And test that. And then they'd need to make sure it hooked in to the overhead map code properly, and the global map too, possibly. And that would need to be tested as well.

The pieces are there, but I'm pretty certain that the exact combination you want would need to be built, and that takes time. Codingtime. From developers who are bombarded by bugs and features for ALL the professions AND an expansion pack. And it would require testing time for the developers and THEN in the test center before they could push it live.

I'm quite positive that it's more work than you think it is, especially with as big and complex a system as SWG has to be.

Adding objects to the current tent art, however, quite likely requires only opening up an editing tool and saying, "Chair 3 here, turned this way. Chair 4 there, turned that way. A couple tables, this bookshelf, this and that light... PUBLISH!"

I'm guessing that there most likely is no such thing as a ID terminal effect. More likely, it's just the tent that is flagged as a ID salon. The terminals are just there as furniture, more or less. Not very imaginative furniture, but...

Tents are a bad thing? Makes things more difficult? Pain in the tush?

And here I thought new ID'ers had it easy over old-timers. Silly me.

Be that as it may, we haven't heard that that flag has been added to, or tested with, any other type of structure than the ID tents. Maybe they can flip a switch and it works, but if the game is built in a properly object-oriented way, the tent is a child of another object with the ID flag added on. I doubt that for something of such limited use they'd put the flag on the main building object. And there may be different object branches for Player Placeable and NPC City objects, for all we know.

This system could very well be sipmler OR more complex than we take it for, what with us not actually being able to read the code behind it all.

Our dev had to rewrite all of the code to jive with the new UI. We have no idea how long any given thing takes to implement we can only guess, and that goes for software engineers working for other companies too, you just never know how something was coded in the first place and what might need to be done. All that said, we have already been told we are getting player city tents so at the very leastyou can cross that one off your list You keep saying you are passionate about your profession and therefore have to be negative and a b*tch, I see it as an excuse. Many of your fellow ID'ers were also very grumpy when the changes were first announced because yes things need tweaking and some things need changing but they have since been posting constructively and many of them I've quoted directly to the devs or directed them to their threads/posts. You of all people should know I have ALWAYS been optimistic. You're the most ancient ID'er on the forum I can remember.

I am going to try very hard to pick my words carefully, as not to offend anybody. (I know I'll fail hehe)

First off, I think Master IDs should be able to place Salons in their city. Right now salons are attention getting from the outside, but not the inside. This has been said time and time again. There aren't even chairs to sit on. I also think Master IDs should have their tents show up on the plant map. They could name their shops with times they are available. This would keep them from having to stay in town and allow people to find IDers quicker.

Second off, I am a bit disturbed by some the complaining I see. IDs got a fair chunk of loving in the mini-patch. Image Designer is not the only profession in the game that needs a face lift. Some people seem very ungrateful for the work the devs did for this class, not all but some. Those that are ungrateful, I have to ask what the heck they are even doing in one of the social professions.

I like what the devs did so far for the profession and I thank them. I also hope they fix the bugs and allow M IDs all over the chance to own and operate their own salons, much like a dancer has his/her own cantina or a doc has his own med building etc.

There was a very nice post awhile back about how the tents should look inside, whatever happened to it? It was a great 5 star post in my opinion!

I was wondering if the devs could give us any info on when they will fix up the tents? are they going to be done one at a time? are they still going to be tents or change into buildings? Publish 9 or 10 ?

P.S. This forum has been Ummm? "Not it's normal happy place" lately maybe some good news will help us get back to normal
