Thread: My 2 Cents on the wonderful id timer :)
I really dislike the current situation of 'residual' masters [including myself] who are going to be seen as pretty much having gotten a free ride through the previous system, whether it's true or not.
I don't mind at all that the profession has been made harder, but the 2.5min timer for any who is still trying to progress becomes really annoying. It is annoying to wait 2.5 min to click a button. As I've said before I very much prefer that they increase the xp needed to progress and greatly reduce the timer, or perhaps remove it all together.
I am not a very patient person, I hate the timer as it is now. As I've said in other posts as well, I can only hope that it will be tweaked in such a way that the profession still will be difficult (macroing it in an hour or two was just ridicilous and everyone stopped taking ID seriously - that was a serious problem and I AM glad they fixed it, I just wish they had use a more charming way), but that it will be enjoyable as well.

I've been seeing a lot of complaints about the id timer, and id just like to say that this is whatwe asked for indirectly on these fourms, remember that post? the top 5 things youd like to see changed with IDs? back before publish 8.1? making ID harder to master so that we would be a more valued profession, so people wouldnt be popping out master in half an hour.. and the id timer certainly has fixed that so i just have to say good job devs i dont mind the timer one bit, so stopcomplaining about it you should all be greatful its making you master ID's harder to come by, i've been charging what i like for any changes, and i havnt had a problem yet, while your waiting for the timer you can just Talk to your customer, i mean, i usually talk to my customers for 5-10 mins anyways... don't be haters.. patience is a virtue.
"Not popping to Master in half an hour" does not equate with "120 hours spent staring at a wait screen."
They developers are paid to know the difference.
I would like to start this reply by making a small distinction:
The Timer - The computer counts down the time untill you can hit the commit button again. Many professions have timer, an example being musician. They can not resume playing music for about 15 secons after stopping.
The Clock - A graphic representation of the timer. In the UI's current incarnation, the clock is visible to both the ID and the ID's customer. This clock must stay on the screen ( while using mouse mode )for a variable length of time depending on what the customer wants. No other profession has a clock except those who use crafting tools, and that clock simply shows them the number of seconds untill they can reopen the UI. Crafters have a workaournd for thier clocks being that they can use multiple tools. The ID's clock, works a different way. It tells them AND THEIR CUSTOMERS the number of minutes and seconds they have untill they can _close_ the UI. No other profession works this way.
A side point: The ID UI is not verticly resizable. It extends from halfway down the hotkeys on the top of my screen all the way down to the text entry box in the chat window on the bottom of my screen. Additionally, it can only be resized horizontally to a minimum of half the screen. Yes I can put windows on top of it, but due to various design factors in the HUD I have to choose between difficulty in reading my UI or difficulty in seeing the tent around me.
IDs also have the additional stigma in that they offer nothing marketable before the rank of Novice ID. No one asks for the basic hair styles available at char creation, or the limited pallet of colors that non masters have. The only thing that Novice IDs have to offer is stat migrations, which take five minutes inside the ID tent. Oh, by the way, that is five minuts of the ID's CUSTOMER looking at the clock.
As an entertainer working up the tree towards Novice ID, I have had zero customers. Not a one. I almost had one once, untill we determined that I could not make his facial hair bright christmas red like his head hair. I don't have an alt account. I don't have a willing and able PA to assist in my grinding. I have some donated money, but that is almost gone. This means that I have no choice but to grind on myself, getting half the already out-of-whack exp.
If you click on the link in my sig you will see that I have put forth some ideas to fix this. I am trying to remain constructive about the profession. But the profession is making it harder and harder to do so.
If you are in the tent, both the ID and the ID's customer have to wait the 2.5 minutes for the clock to hit zero.
If you are not in the tent, the ID and the ID's customer have to wait the five minutes for the clock to hit zero.
Both can see the clock while in Mouse mode.
By the way all, a view of the ID interface can be found at the following URL. I have it positioned and sixed for the best visibility I can, but I don't have much room to play with.
