Ok ill come straight out and say it yes i am a holo grinder, but in this instance it was actually a good thing. I actually had to grind Master entertainer for one of my holos, and yes i /image self a million times to grind the id tree quickly. The nice thing though was it opened me up to a new proffession. Although Im not gonna do ID with my main character I decided i was gonna go Master ID on my crafter character, I just found doing new looks to be really fun. Low and behold whenI go to the entertainer trainer and then try leveling up my crafter character the whole interface is changed and it takes soooooooo long to do anything. It makes ID less and less appealing to me now. If anyone has any advice on how i can level up in at least a reasonable amount of time i would really appreciate some advice, because I would actually like to join the ranks of Master ID.

Thanks,

Alesa

Alesa,

There is no easy way to do it now, but if you wish to come to Lok to have someone to practice upon, I always take up new apprentices. Don't be discouraged by the timer its a good thing. Be fortunate you are practicing this wonderful profession in a good economy! You should have tried ID at launch, pre-patch when there was zero economy, we all had 250 credits, you had to run delivery missions for your training money, no macros, no xp for self ID, and finding a client who wouldsit with you for more than 3 minutes to practice was like finding a needle in a cornfield. Total time to master id then was one month of nothing but id work 6+ hours a day, 7 days a week!

Come see me on Lok in Chinatown, I'll even pay your starport/shuttle faire if you cannot afford it. Just send me a Gmail, I am usually on after 8pm EST

Oh, and fix the entertainer profession....

I think the devs and master ID's blame hologrinders for the holo system that is about to die, as though you MADE the devs put it there in the first place I have friends who might help me through, but there are many things more fun and more interesting than looking at a timer for however long it ends up being. I for one tell friends thinking of coming here that it is a good thing that you dont need 10 months to get to a level in your chosen prof to really matter, with regards to what you can give to the economy, or to pvp. In DAOC every profession I played, and I played many. was viable, but the climb to get to the highest level was a long one. I took 10 months to get to 50th in my chosen prof there, and have no interest in doing it again. There you just did not matter till you were at or near 50th level, here you can matter in pvp, or take part in the economy in just a month or two. I love that about SWG, and I hope they keep that aspect of leveling in place. Now finishing any prof in 2 hours is silly, and fixing an exploitlike that is a good thing for the game and the prof, but overkill is not a good thing to impose on your customers. If any in the loop at SOE read this, get a calculator and do the math on the prof as it sits, and tell me if you think a "casual gemaer" can finish this prof in "about a month" as stated when the change was made. And for you hologrinder haters, and for you who are masters and love the system, we did not choose to hologrind, SOE did, in many cases we did not choose to be ID, SOE did for us. Why do you so dislike those who want to be jedi so much? I do not come to these forums and flame those who only want to craft and play social professions. I like pvp, I hope to be a pilot when the space expansion hits, I bought this game in hopes of being a jedi, those are my reasons for playing. But while I find social and crafting profs boring, I do not come down on you for liking them. It is your right as a paying customer like me to play however the game allows, and however you have the most fun. Please stop coming down on those who do not enjoy the game in the same way you do.

It's resentment towards the system manifesting as resentment towards those who partake in it. It's also resentment towards AFK-advancement in general. Hologrinders tend to personify that idea for the macro-tainment professions, so they get picked on. Further, it just compounded the problem that folks saw our professions as worthless, especially when someone could be "in and out" in a half hour.

Same reason folks gripe at ID nows because of Stat Migration and what not.

But I must say, you did choose to hologrind. No one "has" to be a jedi in the game, just as no one has to be a squad leader in the game. They may want to, but they don't have to in order to play the game. Further, you more specifically don't need to -GRIND- through to reach your goals. You can advance at a casual pace [it'd just take a while longer].

The difficult/unobtainable makes for a great residual hook that needs very little maintance [I believe that was the original idea behind the Jedi advancement system being setup as it was].

Not saying your point is to be discounted, just that isn't appropiate to state that you have no choice but to hologrind.

[ Add / Edit ]
Quick comment to, alot of "us regular IDers" simply got annoyed frustrated at the attitudes some of the other hologrinders have presented on this board and others about us and the validity of our profession... But for the most part, it's just resentment at the system, with generalization being a minor component.
