Thread: Idea. Saving ID Templates

A service idea came to mind recently, probably one that others have mentioned before, but hey, no shame in repeating what may be a good idea.

Allow Image Designers to 'save' a person's current appearance settings as an ID Template that either the ID can keep or that the client can have.

The ID gets the benefit of simply having a number of basic templates of "popular" looks/appearances to make it easier or at least faster to get someone a Fad/popular look (zombies anyone?), or help them decide on what they want.

The client can simply have a number of looks for [relatively] quick swapping, and maintain a rather constant look [once they've found one they like]. I could see it being primarily useful for Entertainer types who have a number of different looks they like to 'switch between' for different occassions.

Could keep the template stored in the Data Pad, and have it become an option in the ID UI [along with details stating the minimum ID requirements to facilitate the changes]. Maybe even allow an ID session that consists solely of a template to have a timer reduction, although I predict that would primarily be of benefit to the grinders.

Both of those sound like great ideas, but hopefully the former wouldn't result in too many identicle characters

One idea I had was to maybe include a randomize option in the ID interface like is in character creation. A lot of people want a change but dont know exactly what they want..maybe a way of showing them a bunch of random looks will get you a little closer to what they want then fine tune from there.

Ya know, I forgot about that randomize option too .

It'd be a neat toy I think . Make for some comical "Randomize my Life" instances.

One use I can see for the first idea is for people who want to revert back to their origional looks... weeks later. If your in a PA, you probably have a person who changes weekly.

The randomize idea just makes sense, as it is in char creation.

It's a great idea. People would be more playful with their image if they knew they could get back to their regular image easily.

I have this sense I've mentioned this before but am not 100% sure. I can almost guarantee the answer would be that it would be a database hog. Not to mention it would take some coding/art/UI time. If it comes up as a serious contender when we vote on our new SOTP/top five issues (which I want to do after our hot fixes stop coming in) I'll definitely bring it up.

This is why I miss the numeric display that use to go with the sliders and also the loss of the macros. You could build a macro that would set all of the values for a "standardized" look and save it off. You could also just write down a clients current look so that he/she/it could revert back at a later date.

That isn't a good idea. It dumb-a-fies our profession to idiom. Part of the true talent of being a image designer is remembering repeat clientele and thier templates. I hate playing idiot-proof games, albight professions. Take some responsibility, it will distinguish you from those with less talent in your field.

Oh, and fix the entertainer profession....

Perhaps, but to those of us whose talent does not extend to an eidetic memory, it is more of an aid. Unfortunately, I have to write down clients names and their tastes, it just would be nice if the in game PDA (datapad) could help us out.

Also, especially for dancers, there are set looks to go with set outfits. Pale skin, black long hair and green eyes look nice with an orange fleshwrap. Blonde hair, tan skin, blue eys look good with the white outfit. Why not be able to change all those conveniently?

This is a good point, and I understand to some extent. On the part that it 'dummifies the profession' at least.

Personally, it came to mind as a means to aid some performers with costume changes/etc. Situations where minutia detail is important, but time may be at a premium.

Kwee's point, however, bites true, as it would in effect be saving another copy of the person's avatar in the database. However, I'd be surprised if that ends up using up more data-space than say the statistics for a BE pet.
