Thread: Idea for ID (and others)

just came up with this just now...so it's not entirely thought out, so add some thoughts and suggestions, and keep the criticism constructive please....

Now, the bulk of these changes center around jedi, but at the same time it infuses some much needed attention to some other professions.

Picture this...you're a jedi, a troop of storm troopers just landed near you as you are killing quenkers, you've gotten visibility. Damnit right? Now picture this.

You go to coronet, you see a Master ID (this has to be done a ID hut), who changes your looks, changes your hair color, adds some facial hair, which lowers your visibility, because after all, you cant be visible if they cant find you.

Now, you go to a Master Smuggler to make you a fake ID, because if someone stops you or scans you, you dont want them to know you are the rogue jedi being sought after. as for bio signatures, what if it took a master smuggler, and a master bio engineer to come up with a fake bio scan reading to fool the tracking droids?

So now if a BH who has your mission sends out seeker droids, they cant find you, because they'd be lookin for a blonde haired fellow with no facial hari, when now you've got black hair, with a goatee, and a change of clothes . BH can still track you, and they can give you visibility again, they just have to find you. This would call for actual tracking, and using intelligent tracking...say you know who your target is, you know what guild he's in and what city he/she runs their missions from...they'd lay in wait inside some structure, and come out and through a radial /scan option give them instand visibility again. Or even build a contact of spys who can give the whereabouts of the target. And in order to be able to /scan the target they'd have to be a master BH, that way eliminating alot of the 3000 BH melee stackers that are out now, give master bh's something worth working for.

This would encourage jedi to go back into hiding, if they are hunting out in the wild after getting a make over, shouldnt it be hard to track them? You'd see less jedi around player cities and npc cities (mining outpost).

So, BH could still get missions on the jedi, but itd be harder to find them. Now because the jedi HAVE to go to a ID salon, they'd still have to go through danger to make their way to a hut to get the change done, and then with the time delays for the changes, there'd be a window of oppurtunity for a BH to strike.

Now i just thought this up just now..so i havent fully explored all posibilites and possible exploitations so feel free to give feed back.

Hmmm I think something similar was brought up way back in the day. I forget whether we thought as a group that it was desirable. Many ID's felt that they didn't want to have an essential function because they would be constantly harassed by undesirables - but that's pretty what we have with stat migration. WHat makes this differnet than stat migration is that it seems to be more in-line with our function of beautification - disguises are in our realm.

Of course any system would have to take into account the potential for abuse - think of the outcry if BH droids can't find a given Jedi on the terminals. I'm not saying that it's a bad idea, but it must be implemented in a way that is fair to BH's, Jedi AND ID's.

i dont have much faith that the developers could code something like this into the game. the visibility issues have been present since almost day one. there would almost have to be a viewable visibility meter.

it is surely an interesting idea, however, a jedi's life should not be without risk. people are constantly trying to convince the devs to make jedi easier, when in actuality, it should be made much harder.

going on simple logic with regards to changing a players appearance to avoid visbility, why not visit a tailor and buy a "costume". while the thought is here, there are so many loop holes with regards to who should beable to lower visibility.

its this a good idea? i dunno. its it feasible, no.

I like this idea. It combines severalprofessions in a cooperative way that is well within the scope of the universe (so to say) and this game alike. I share the concerns, that this may lead to more contacts of the more rude kind, but well, we cannot avoid them forever whatever we do and it's a nice idea after all.

May the Force be with you all!
