Thread: issues with the image design profession

in keeping with my other posts on this forum, i do not expect a serious response from anyone at sony. it just never happens, unless you are a diehard artisan with an elite profession that you are really doing well at...then you seem to get a ton of attention, good or bad.

here are some of the problems i see with image designer, a profession i mastered in about 4 days on my own with 2 accounts.

1) image designers have no safeguards to ensure that we get paid. vendors for artisans ensure that they get payment from someone. i cannot tell how many changes i will make, or how long a session will take to complete, and find it very hard to estimate costs and accept money up front. 4 out of 7 times when i do image design on someone, if i cant get money up front, they just run away after im done. this really is silly since you guys just tell me that "i just got ripped off, nothing can be done...be more careful in the future". yeah thanks. how about you do something about it instead of me being careful? add an approval system to it all...if we make changes, and a person doesnt pay, and they go out of range of me...or i go out of range of them i get a popup that asks if i want those changes to stay committed....or /revokechanges or something similiar so i can revert them back to what they were before they tried to rip me off. then though, i worry that image designers might revert characters back after taking their money...but that would likely happen a lot less than the opposite...and i bet you money if i did that to someone you would listen to them complaining about it and do something to keep me from doing it again...when the situation is reversed, you guys refuse to do anything...not that i blame you

2) let us preview everything we are making changes to. the little preview of the frills is nice until you see how they scale to a rodians head and they look nothing like what the preview led you to believe.

3) color updates are not happening correctly, this really sucks when you are trying to work on getting things just right for a client.

4) options are missing. this definitely should be rectified.

5) the profession is far too limiting. im a female human, i carry a rodian hairstyle that is 2 bangs hanging down in the front, and a pony tail in the back. it is purple. it does not look bad...i have seen some cross-species hairstyles that really made me angry...moncals with hair, zabraks with human hair, etc...you took the ability to do these things away...well...i very well could have been the first person doing that on the server, im not sure. im almost certain someone else did that on bloodfin before me, but i never saw it. i NEVER mentioned it to anyone, or committed a change like that to another person. someone figured it out after i did and felt the need to tell everyone how to do it. my hair looks completely natural, and dyed...something that can happen in real life. i do not want to lose my brightly colored hair, nor do i want to lose the style that it is in. it looks 100% correct on my model. i also never told anyone how to do that image design species stuff...my wife even asked so she could do it on her server, and i said no. we need more color choices, more styles to work on, a preview system that actually works for me and my client. perhaps a client browser so they can pick the things they want done from a menu without seeing them on themselves ahead of time...kinda like the hairstyle catalog at a salon. they can look at an npc model in their species with a given hairstyle, minus custom coloring, etc.

the only way to be a really good image designer seems to be for a character to just give you full control. my friend is a moncal...after he finally let go and allowed me to just do what i wanted to do, he said he had to be the best looking moncal in the game. a few days later, we had a guest on our teamspeak that said the exact same thing to him out of the blue. if i had more options for haircolors, styles, eye colors, lip colors and other colors in the game...things would go along way. ive decorated my rodian alternate character on the same server in a silver and white outfit i made. his eyes are silver, his frill tips are silver and it really does look damned nice to have everything match up. if i had those types of color choices, i could do designs like that for everyone that came to me, and the player population in general would start to look better and better...at the same time there are bad image designers out there...so im sure there will be some people running around with white hair, red shirt and blue pants and green shoes with a pink headwrap....thats going to happen, but man id really enjoy myself if i had the option of doing complete makeovers to match someone better with the new outfit they just spent 15000c on.

just my two cents...i know a lot of this has been said before ... but i dont do forums very often, and just dont have the time to sit down and read things all day.

Your post is too long. There are a million posts on the board no one has time to read them all.

If you want your post to be read keep it short

Forgive me if I don't have the proper respect for someone who power-leveled to master in four days, and is only just now finding out how the profession works. Most everyone else would have figured out the major bugs before even hitting novice ID. But that's another matter.

The cross-species hairstyle thing is, in fact, a bug, and that was never intended to work. Yes, I want to be able to do exotic hair colors and funky styles, but the command that made those possible was a huge bug. Non-image designers could use it; it did not filter for the proper range of numbers; it actually made my client crash. I would love to be able to do more styles, but that hole was fixed for a good reason.

What'swith telling peoplethat you mastered ID in four days by running two computers and two accounts, before you lead us to yourrun on paragraphs where you don't show enough curtesy to the reader to even bother using capital letters to begin your sentences with? I very rarely police any post for spelling, grammar or punctuation but come on! Did you want us to bother to read your post or not?

I wouldn't brag about running around with a hairstyle and color that the devs did not intend for your character. I sincerely hope that one day more hair color and hairstyle options are made available to us all. I have seen the hairstyle you're talking about on Kwee, it looked awesome, but I did not take it because it was not intended for her to have it. This particular slash command was being exploited in many different ways and was buggy to boot even when used in a non-exploitive manner. Sometimes it didn't give exp, sometimes it didn't work even when changes were legal, sometimes it crashed you out of the game. I went a step beyond /bugging it myself. I emailed the details of the exploitto Tygress (our correspondent Rilawyn) a few weeks ago, who thenemailed them to the devs. If you don't feel what you were doing (and are still doing with your purple rodian hair) was an exploit, why wouldn't you share the how-to with your own wife?

Actually slight correction. I did not take the purple rodian hairstyle even briefly because I didn't hit on that hairstyle number until after they nerfed the slash command Escia and I were testing to make sure it really wasn't working anymore. We did discuss how tempting it would be of course, it looked very cute

It would be nice to get some way of guaranteeing payment, however, I find it odd that 4 out of 7 people are just taking off on you. I only had one experience of getting very ripped off, and that was a tip of 10 credits for a hair change. I'm also pretty bad about talking about prices before hand, maybe whenever you recieve a tell, also give them the going rate on the change they want, someone suggested that once, and it was a great idea.
