Thread: Stat-based ID changes... yes or no?

Something occurred to me that I thought I'd pass around. It might give people some ideas, or maybe you'll shoot this down.

Presently, ID changes have nothing to do with stats. You can make your character Mr. Buff Wookiee and name him something like Pwnd D00d, but make him 1.5 meters tall and bone-thin. Conversely, you can make the biggest, strongest human 'toon possible and give him feeble stats. At the moment, people want more options and more variation so they can be different... and they always pick the same things. Anyone else but me getting tired of max height humans, max muscle Wookiees, and min height Bothans? And then... they ask for more height, more muscle, and so on.

Here's a thought: see what you think.

If your 'toon has a really high strength, maybe an ID can give you Bonus Muscles! That way your character really can look as strong as he should. (If you wanted him to.) If you don't have a high strength, no bonus muscles for you!

For a high health, your character can be really tall. Platform Shoes! Or something. Bonus height, so the really tough guys are, get this, bigger. Make sense? And if you've got a pitiful health rating, no bonus height for you: you get bonus Shortness, if you want it.

For a really high stamina, your character can be really thin and lean. If your stamina is terrible, you just can't be that thin, sorry. Bonus! Really low stamina and quickness? Bonus fat! Yay!

I don't have any other specific ideas for stats, but what does everyone think? I'd like to see a little more variation possible between characters, so you just can't get everything unless it fits your character stats.

Basically, anybody with any stats gets the full range of stuff they get now at character development. If you want to go that extra mile for your look, you can take the Bonus stuff if your stats deserve it.

What do you think?

I like this idea if the bonus is a benefit over and above what we can already do. So high strength would allow someone to get more muscle than in character creation for example. But I suspect that the player base would not be happy with such a requirement.

Yes, that was the idea... extra ID abilities for characters whose stats deserve it. I think I said the full range we how have would be available to characters at creation, but beyond Max Muscle there are Bonus Muscles if you have a strong character, but unavailable if your character stats aren't good enough.

What would happen when they migrate their stats back down after the change?

It'd have to bump that graphic attribute down gradually, as the stat migrated, I guess. Extra programming, I know.

I was just trying to brainstorm some ways to keep the population from looking all the same. Basing it on actual stats seemed like one way to do that, by giving bonuses to people with extraordinary stats.

An amusing thought occured to me if they did this. Sooner or later someone would get drunk on Tatooine Sunburn... Well, let's just say that they could be really meaty for about 6 minutes.
