Thread: Character Generation Limits

My random thought for the day: LucasArts has said that we will not be allowed to increase physical attributes beyond character generation limits…but they never said we couldn't ask to have character generation limits reduced by, say, 10% at either end while maintaining our current in-game range. Suddenly IDs get more not-availabe-in-CG stuff. Nerf chargen! Feel free to discuss, or just tell me I'm smoking crack, or whatever.

I don't see this happening with the current species, (too many players would be crying nerf) They could have done this in Beta. BUT they could do this with the new SE species with out any trouble

Nonono. They wouldn't cry nerf. Here's why.

Existing characters would not be changed. Their current character's appearance falls into the acceptable ranges. Correct? All that is changing is what is available at Creation.

Say the chin ranges are 0-255 (I can't remember off the top of my head) in game. That's the lowest and max it will EVER be. ...well, everyone currently playing already falls into that category.

If the change is done at Creation, and taken to 50- 150 (which is actually a big jump but I'm using it for distinction) then it would not be affecting current characters. Only new characters created AFTER the 'adjustment.'

So the only people noticing a change in this would be us because we'd know about it and if I went to make a character on a new server.

Granted, it would be a bit annoying to have to look a way I don't want to until I had enough money to pay an ID. I'm just explaining that if it did not affect current characters then no one would really know to start yelling Nerf.

Now I have thoughta little more about this, I would really like to see this on body stuff but not any face stuff. It's hard enough getting your face just right. also I don't see our bussiness effect by changing Character Generation face Limits, like body limits would.

In my experience, most people are not that interested in changing their body proportions anyway. For the most popular races, they just set their height to max, their weight to the minimum, set their muscle to maximum (if their character is male) or their torso to maxiumum (if their character is is female). Most people don't seem to have any problem with the cartoonish proportions they have when they do this. A lot of people have trouble constructing a decent looking face, though.

Anyway, reducing the character creation values for the body would make a lot of work for image designers, but it would probably be boring work. It would mostly likely be requests to make people as tall as possible and increase their breast size as much as it can be.

Not to sound too cynical, but…this would differ from the current requests to go beyond chargen limits…how? Not many people want to be shorter than chargen allows (although both of my toons on Kettemoor are as short as they can possibly be) nor do they want to be heavier than chargen allows (although some do, mostly for shock value)…really what we're talking about whenever we discuss chargen limits is skinnier, more heavily muscled, taller, and bigger boobs. *shrugs*
