Thread: Crazy GCW idea... don't kill me!

KwongWah's idea of resetting faction to Zero sparked a crazy chain of events in my head that eventually led to the idea I spread before you.

A person comes to an Image Designer looking to become a little less popular if you know what I mean. After an extensive work session, the job is complete and the person is free to go.

What I'm talking about is a drastic character change. By drastic, I mean practically game-altering for the person involved. This 'New Identity' skill would re-set all a players faction to zero. ALL FACTION. Nightsister, Rebel, Jabba's, Valarians, Imperial, townsperson, Tusken, Fed-dub, CorSec. ALL of them go to zero. Any faction affiliation the person has (Rebel/Imperial characters) is nulled. They become neutral. They lose their rank and any faction perks as if they had resigned from the faction. Possibly they lose citizenship in their player-city until they re-declare residence.

This is not an immediate skill, either. It's got a one-hour timer, just like regularly quitting a faction, so that it prevents greifing.

Reasons why this skill is usefull:

Helps to complete certain missions that may involve talking to hostile factions.

Promotes spies and turncoats in the GCW by giving them a cheap'n'easy way to work off that negative faction.

Allows players with negative faction a 'second chance' to experience certain missions and theme parks.

Potential skill problems:

Smugglers have a factional buying ability. I've heard of it being used to 'buy-off' the negative faction for a player who is changing sides in the GCW. This may cut into their already poor business.

Not sure it CAN be implemented... can the game properly re-set all faction to Zero? Or can it just add/subtract from the current faction?

Danger in not knowing the risks of asking for this skill. Suggest a box similar to confirm structure/character delete in which the person must type a phrase to complete the process. Make it clear in this box that all factional perks, points, pets, and rank will be lost.

Currently, a recruiter is the only place to resign a faction. The dev's may want to keep it that way. Maybe only allow skill to be used in Factional Bases (thus allowing another use for factional bases?)

While the idea is attractive I don't particularly like it. It essentially eliminates the consequences of one's actions. Why didn't I do the corvette? Aside from not being able to beat a durni I didn't want to ruin CorSec faction. How

ever I'm one who likes to work toward goals, and not instantaneous gratification. A "clean slate" can too easily be exploited I think.

Exploited in what way?

Someone here may help me with this. I know that with enough Tusken faction even as Aggro-mobs they won't attack you. I visited the pool under Fort Tusken as a novice Marksmen by just sauntering past all the Tuskens.

So... do new players start with negative Tusken faction, or does just having Zero faction for the Tuskens make them hostile? How does the hostility/faction setup work? Does anyone know?

I believe at around -2300 faction Mobs will always aggro you (if they are able to aggro.)

In another game that had reputations with factions one thing you frequently saw was people using the fastest method to raise a faction, then kill members of that faction for loot items with ease because they always would get the first few hits in and/or the group wouldn't all attack that person. Janta/Mokk are an example for this. With negative faction they swarm on you, with good faction you can pretty much take them one at a time.

If faction can be easily reset why bother with having it in the first place?

Personally, I like this idea. (Wish I'd come up with it first. 8-b ) But as people have mentioned, something like this could cause a lot of problems because people would bear no responsibility whatsoever for their actions. Therefore, Icame up with a suggestion for balancingit some. First, I want to take an expanded universe reference to having one's identity changed--Han Solo.

In order to hide from the Hutts and be able to join the Empire, Han had an illegal retinal operation done to change his retinal pattern. After the surgery, Han lay blind and incapacitated for several days. (As described in A.C. Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy)

Therefore, I believe that in addition to zeroing faction points after an hour, there should bea long-term lowering of all secondary stats for5 hours of gameplay or something(who knows, maybe the stat lowering could be like an hour per faction zeroed). Yes, this would probably lower the demand for this action to be performed, but that would mean people would still have some sort of consequence.

i dont really like the idea as it completely defeats the point of the entire faction system, not to mention that i do not see this ability as a role of the image designer, we are makup artists, hair stylists, tatooists, i think if anyone was to alter factions inany way through 'disguise' i think it would be more in line with the smuggler proffession

We aren't. We are plastic surgeons too. We can make a person fat, trim, tall, short, change their entire facial structure, dramatically adjust body form, etc. etc. Is Jimmy the Loanshark out to break your legs? Were you a clean cut 6 foot tall overweight man with brown eyes? He won't expect you to be a five foot tall biker with washboard abs and bright yellow eyes. This is what we do.

That's just it... we don't make it easy. Someone later than you posted an idea to incapacitate the recipitant of this skill in some form. I'd say a 24 hour grogginess period similar to Doctor Resurrection. Though I thank you, you brought up a point I hadn't thought before. Easy farming. The more ideas in this thread the better. I think it workable in some way and I'll present it in a more organized form in a few days maybe...
