What is wrong with a TEF? It was invented for a reason: so childish, griefing players couldn't play the "I shot you! Oops, I'm covert, you can't get me now! Hey, I shot you again! Oops, I'm covert again, nyah nyah" game. You can't switch back to Covert if you're busily attacking people: that's the whole point. Your actions against the enemy in battle come back to haunt you. Why should any player have the ability to circumvent an anti-griefing mechanism? How could that ability possibly be structured so it could be useful without being griefable?

I'll start by saying this is not really the thread for the discussion you're trying to start. Help the thread or start a new one.

Second: there's ways to avoid that. First of all if you read my post you could see there was a timer involved so people could not do what you're talking about. Second of all many people get tefs for reasons other than greifing. Your cynical attitude can be applied to any part of the game to make it look bad, but in the end people who suggest this are trying for the betterment of this class and if you can't see that, you should just keep your mouth shut.

If you see a problem with the idea, instead of simply bashing it. Try coming up with ways to alter it to still give the class something practical without allowing for abuse.

IMO - the base speed is generally ok. With macros and buffs it is much, much too fast. The latter needs to be dealt with first.

Some improvements mentioned that I liked, and that I think ought to be looked into:
- remove the macro command so it can't be macroed without a popup window
- add an ID delay. This is including, not on top of, the time it takes to select the changes.
- increase the exp/change ratio significantly to balance the above changes
Limiting grinding speed means that buffing will be less necessary (and less useful) with low-rank changes ( as mind will be full more of the time anyways) it also means that an actual ID session does not slow the exp grind. (as much)

- balance the exp/mind/rank ratios across the board
Meaning that the exp/mind ratio will be the same for all changes, and that the bigger changes will be higher rank.
- split into 4 kinds of ID exp
Splitting the trees will prevent these bigger changes from being used to quickly power through the other three trees (like building harvesters to get through domestic arts)

now that I've thoroughly confused myself, thats the end

As far as removing macros go, I really, really, really hope that doesn't happen. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I use macros to coordinate makeup and such with outfits—one F-key and everything changes. While for me this would be an annoyance, a friend of mine uses it as a very interesting RP tool, and killing the macros would make the character a lot more difficult to RP. (I still think skill gain is just fine given that all the "useful" content is at the top of the tree…if there were more useful content in tiers 1 and 2 I might change my mind…after all, even novice medics can make Small Stimpack - As…)

I'd like to share my experience with you all regarding this issue.

I mastered ID usingone musician mind buff, and 8 uses of muon gold.

Imade masterbefore the buff ran out, so it was less than 2 hours of work. I'd guess probably more like 1 hour and a half. The person training me was shocked, as she spent 8 hours grinding it the day before.

I did eye_color the whole way through and was able to run the macro non-stop with no pause.

Personally, I'm stoked that this profession was so straightforward to master, but in the overall scheme of the game, I would prefer there to be some cost involved...

In every other profession (perhaps excluding dancer and musician) you need to buy things to make it through the profession. Be it resources, or weapons, there is some limiting factor that can stop you from hitting master.

Perhaps image designers could craft makeup, or hair products that would be expended when used.

I definitley don't think it's too hard to gain levels in id. First of all, it's hard to find someone to sit there and just click and click for hours... I've had three people do that for me so far (started to grind on Friday) and I'm now at 2030. I still have a long way to go and it's going to be hours before I get there.
