Thread: For IDs Only... Is this really what we want?
I just hate that it was dragged on in a super secret process for so long to resemble absolutely nothing that has been asked for.
It's like having your parents hint all year that you are going to get a new puppy for christmas, and having them give you a holopuppy that floats over your head for two minutes and is gone ![]()
I think the secrecy here really hurt this. What Kwee was allowed to tell us about the particle effects didn't really match up at all to what we got. We expected glitter, windblown looks, streaks, maybe flower petals. The closest we've got to this from what we've seen so far is the soap bubbles. By not letting us know more until it's on Test Center, we didn't really get any input. Sure we had Kwee, but if Kwee isn't allowed to tell us anything, we can't give feedback, and the whole process of her being our correspondent becomes awkward and vague.
Basically, it looks like she had to guess how we would react, without actually being able to tell us what was coming and see how we would react. She would then have to take this less than complete information to the developers, who took it and went in a completely different direction, and again gave Kwee less than complete information to take back to us.
The NDA has palpably harmed player-developer relations here, and I think SOE should look at how this happened and try to prevent something similar from happening again.
If I had my druthers, I'd trim the more outrageous particle effects out, and launch the mini-publish with the tamer ones like the soap bubbles. I'd up the timers, then I'd start the team on working on some more appropriate ones, like feathers, flowers, trailing ribbons, and so forth.
...but fer goshsakes, no floating freaking skull. That thing's an eyesore.
While I agree totally that communication needs a lot of work, those that thought we were getting windblown looks ignored several flat-out, very direct posts from TH stating that it couldn't be done due to client-side render-lag. Once again, please be careful about making the sort of assertions that we were promised anything, it is only likely to make them more reluctant to communicate with us in the future.

Isn't strange though that droid eng., Image designer, and soon to be smuggler have all gotten a raw deal. It's like there just focusing on jedi and everybody else is kinda on the back burner. Well all i can say is good luck to ya and i hope things turn out for the better.

I've posted this elsewhere but want everyone to get to hear it
The particle effects were were told about were not able to be done b/c of time constraints. The holo-emotes were something the devs could do quickly (1-1/2 days of art/coding) and so they threw it inas a fun thing for us. My impression is that they were all really surprised that there was so much negative feedback, though much of it has been b/c people don't realize they just last1/4 or 1/2 minute.
And as TH has said, the originally described particle effects may still be coming to us in the future ![]()

Is it that everyone is afraid that if you don't get what you want RIGHT NOW, then you'll never get it? I admit, it might take a while for us to get love, but I'd rather get what love we're gettin' now and wait a bit for some more love later down the road. At least with what we're gettin' now, we'll be in substantially higher demand than before.
And since, as the devs say, these holo-emotes are a technical thrust forward to bigger and better things, then by gosh, that's nice too.
If we don't like 'em, we ain't gotta sell 'em.

Admittedly, the holo-emotes are kinda tacky, but the rest of the publish is great.

But I still have to see them, and to me that ruins my gameplay as surely as the cross-species hair exploit did.
