it would add zero noticable lag, since all the images are presented by your PC. The only thing it would need to send is an addition line.

handed: L/R

or 0 for right 1 for left.

And when you consider all the other information thats recieved, terrain, colours, clothes, race, textures.....another switch to show left or right handedness is nothing.

Please excuse my ignorance, I'm not a software programmer but to me its really is that simple.

As I stated allready the most important point here is, that most likely 95% of all players won't even notice that someone else might be lefthanded if they are not actually looking for that kind of detail. The same is true for little detlails like colored finger/toe-nails or earrings and similar very tiny details. And I don't see the devs investing any of their very precious dev-time (I guess it will soon replace dollar and Euro as main currency on this planet ) into something that most players will never notice. Especially not with so much other stuff still on their plates.

As much as I and even the devs would love to see such nice details implemented, it simply won't happen any time soon.

May the Force be with you all!

Well I don't know exactly how they have it set up either but It is one more bit of info that has to be sent over the network about each person you meet and while that isn't much for a single player, going into a packed cantina it would add to the network lag.

It would be the same amount of network lag as any other piece of info about your character, like hair style, hair color. It wouldn't cause as much graphics lag on your computer that hairstyles or color would to display the character right but every little bit of possible lag needs to be looked at and carefully managed in a game like this.
